Each year will hold a different significance for everyone, filled with personal triumphs and tragedies. Perhaps you remember a particular year for the time you got married, went off to college, had a wonderful holiday abroad, the birth of a child or even the more sorrowful events such as the death of a loved one. At the end of the day, RITY is just one RTE editor's idea of what constituted as a significant event that year. I'm personally baffled at some of the choices that were obviously shoe-horned in for politically correct reasons (women's camogie making the cut? I bet even the players barely remember it) but some of the choices are very revealing of the bubble RTE staff operate in (the continual adoration of Obama being a prime example).

I agree with previous posters that the disappearance of the MH370 plane was a glaring omission. The whole Garth Brooks saga must have passed me by, as did most of the sports stories.

Come on now do you actually believe this :confused::confused:

You're talking trout. Garth Brooks fiasco was everywhere for the bones of 2 months, no way you missed it. I remember at the time, garth brooks and water charges were on the news seemingly every night.

He's just being spiteful because the show has things he doesn't like

The water charges protests got very ugly at times. Petrol bombing their vans and the likes. Yet it was fairly glossed over in that episode, I thought, all things considered.

I've said it since the start, if water charges were free for medical card holders like most other things, you wouldn't have heard much protest.

As was the part about who the contracts to fit the water meters were given to :pac:

I suppose that explains it. You get your news from RTE, I don't. I don't watch RTE for anything, not even RITY. I watch a pirated rip online. I normally spend my Friday nights out socialising with friends while you're sat at home watching the RTE canteen on the Late Late. Tell me - do they still do the misery hour?

How do you know someone doesn’t watch RTÉ……?

There was at least 15,000 posts on this site about the Brooks saga, including this thread complaining about the amount of coverage it got, would have been completely bizarre if it got no mention at all.

I think it's safe to say that the whole hysteria about Garth Brooks performing in Croke Park was all over the media, and not just RTE. It's amazing that none of your friends mentioned it any stage, even if it was just to laugh or give out about it!

Anyone else find the choice of musical performances to be a bit odd this series? Every episode has at least 1 or 2 quite long clips of some singer songwriter performing quite bland music on the late late show or something like it.
At least in previous years, there was usually something visually interesting about the performances, to make it worth showing.

On the plus side, at least they've stopped including a long section about the Eurovision in every single episode.

I had friends who weren't living in Ireland for years who knew about it.

Was that not always the case. Off the top of my head I can remember U2, Boyzone and Tom Dunnes band all on the Late Late and the used show Big Tom and the likes on variety shows.

Eurovision should only ever get in if we win it

Republic of Ireland winning a football match, remember what that feels like.

Plenty of downbeat Irish music acts around.

The music has been seriously underwhelming.

    Ah blasphemy!

Must have been a fairly uneventful year if they included three Irish music segments, one of which I don't remember at all.

And a completely average film where nothing happens!

Last day of 6 Nations was mental that year.

I thought the Berkley balcony accident and the Hesbo attack were later

I have never said a bad word about Reeling in the Years but that was surely the worst episode ever. Three forgettable Irish songs (videos, not just audio) and three segments which surely took up half the programme on their own (referendum, climate change, refugee crisis).

That was a dreadful episode...really poor music selection

Would I be right in thinking that RITY is the only programme on Saorview that doesn't have an ad break during the show?
Even BBC programmes that are shown on RTE, Virgin etc manage to be edited to fit ads in.

    These episodes aren't very good.

Who the hell is SOAK? Never heard of her and the song is terrible.

Ladies GAA finals? Empty stadiums...no one cares

The Brooklyn film? That was clearly only added because the topic was a young irish person heading to the USA, which led into the Berkley tragedy and it had a tearjerker song from the film...

Gavin James's song - don't remember it at all and it's rubbish.

Prince Charles coming to Ireland and shaking hands with Gerry Adams....forgettable
