Any Way to Speed Up Dell Studio 1555

Ok Gave my old Dell Studio 1555 to parents and wiped it and reinstalled Windows 10 and MS office and maleware bytes and browsers and skype whats app

However was looking at it last night and it took forever to boot up and as slow as Arsenals Midfield players:o

They just use it for browsing email and skype, whats app video calls. Also some word docs nothing to energy sapping

Can anything be added it speed it up ie more RAM or is worth the hassle?

Any other suggestions

that's a 12 year old laptop with a cpu before even the core i days so the cpu is a prehistoric fossil at this point

if it doesn't have an ssd and can take a 2.5 inch sata that's the obvious step

a 128gb sata ssd is 20 euro on amazon

have at least 6gb ram also

wouldn't spend much money on it

with an ssd it will boot up in under 30 seconds

easiest way is to reinstall windows 10 from a usb key

google how - you download win 10

note licence key from existing licence just in case (google again how to find)

With a bit of work you could upgrade the CPU but not worth doing unless you can get a much better one at a very good price , ie upgrading from a Celeron. And upgrade the BIOS to the latest before you change it.

any cpu that will work will be limited to that generation also though by the socket.

Okay so suggestion is to get external ssd and attach to laptop

Then wipe and reinstall windows from USB key

Keep ssd attached and should boot up quicker and run bit more faster.

Don’t want to spend to much on it

no to swap out the internal old spinning HDD hard drive for a 2.5 inch sata ssd like linked

clean install win 10 on that from usb key

may need to allow boot from usb key in bios to allow this

Replace hard drive with one on amazon link, should slot in ok? Back up anything first

Once installed turn on and go into bios mode, f2 or f12. Change boot from USB ensure Windows exe file is on USB or is it another file type?

Then install Windows accordingly

will just click in - same connection.

google how to make win 10 usb drive install - it's pretty easy

need 8gb drive

download latest win 10 file first then use free program to make usb install exe (with supporting files)
