Small area of smoke damage on partition wall

    Its a small area where a cloth left on a storage heater almost combusted. The room is now for re-painting, the heater has been de-commissioned but I want to cover the smoke damage to the wall..
    The traditional approach would be sugar soap with sponge. My wife met a painter yesterday lol in hardware and he advised to clean the area first, then paint over with diluted oil paint. She said he was an 'old timer' so it seemed like advice from experience.
    Is it a good fix? And if so is it diluted with turps/white spirit?

    Clean down with sugar soap and water.
    2 coats of red bin primer
    And then finish with your preferred wall colour.
    Bin primer much better than the thinned out paint recommendation.
    Make sure room is well ventilated as bin primer has a very strong smell
