    I never gave it much thought always assumed if it was a one off private sale you would just hook it up and bring it home !

    Everything bought in GB (note GB, not NI) since Jan 1st - new or secondhand - is subject to VAT upon import at the appropriate rate for Ireland (which may be zero for certain products).

    How do I calculate the vat amount on the caravan I am looking at ? Caravan is £10000 and been quoted €1200 + vat by a transport company to bring it home.

    23% on the total of purchase price and delivery, so:
    10000GBP x1.17 = 11700EUR +1200EUR delivery = 12900EUR x1.23 standard rate VAT = 15867EUR total.
