Imagine arsenal winning Europa, Chelsea (finish 5th in league) winning the CL and Liverpool finishing 4th in league but missing out CL. That would be kind of funny.

I shouldnt wish that should I...... should I......

I just love a good Liverpool demise.

Potentially 3 more games in the EL to win a trophy. I’ll take that. Rightly favourites and this team needs a trophy, wishful thinking but could be the catalyst to push on for bigger/better things next season.

Interesting comments out of Pogba this morning too! :D

Well, we won't be using Pogba as bait for Spurs to sell Kane anymore :P

Maybe I’m reading a lot into nothing but reading Pogbas comments on Jose and Ole there, coupled with him being made captain for that game has me thinking he might be staying longer and may actually be settled at United. If we factor in COVID (limited transfers this summer for all clubs) and the fact United looks to be on an upward trajectory, I think club and player may extend the contract (do it before Euros).

I also think he is like having a new player, as there is no doubt that a motivated Pogba super charges the team and gives us way more creativity. I think circumstances may allow Pogba and club another chance to see if we can make this work. I’m ok with that to be honest, just really feel like Ole has been managing things into a better place. This can change quickly but today I feel optimistic....

There is no way Pool will finish 4th, sorry to burst your bubble :pac: way things are going they won't be in the Europa

And yeah hope Villareal knock Arsenal out.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

That's not the way the bookies see it, outside of Us and city, they're favourite for top 4.

Enjoyed the game last night even if it was a weird one. Had a decent tempo to it without ever looking like a real competitive tie.

Thought Tuanzebe looked solid and Donny did well when he came on. Last few games seem to have seen a bit of a real understanding between Pogba and Cavani blossom. Weird to see Pogba knocking down cushioned header's to his CF, something that was a feature of the Spurs game as well.

As someone mentioned, great to have someone like Telles there as backup/competition for LB. Can only assume that Williams hasn't been showing enough to feature more this year which is strange as he had a good breakout year last year on the left. I'm not sure if he offers enough to complement/compete with AWB, someone for that slot would really add to the squad for next year.

I was skeptical about the signing of Amad but even in the few minutes last night, you can see he's an exciting prospect. Really hope we start seeing him feature regularly from the bench soon enough.

Don't be fooled by Pogba. It's basically a contract year as he can arrange to leave for free in January. Even last night he did his best to set up a goal for Granada. He has very little tactical awareness and, while I'm sure he is a nice guy and very personable, seems to take none of the responsibility that comes with playing at the top level.

The question about Pogba that needs to be answered is would you want him playing as one of the deep midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 despite the fact that McT and Fred have been better than him there, no. 10 despite the fact that Bruno has been better than him there, on the left despite the fact Rashford is better than him there. If none of those positions suit him then where does? Do United change systems again just to suit him?

Look at the difference between him and Bruno after a loss, Bruno immediately comes out and says that the team needs to do better, Pogba will maybe put up a picture of himself in the game but in any interview is looking for an excuse as to why it's not his fault directly. The guy is a fraud.

    No way?

They are 3 points off West Ham in 4th and 4 points off third spot.

They may not be playing great but I wouldn't be writing them off so easily.

We will worry about the semi final first.

If we are worried about that Arsenal side in the final sure we might as well just give up. They're a reason they have had a poor season. 1 result last night does not change that. Respect them yes, but fear them? No way.

Perfect opportunity for United now to win a badly needed trophy. Its time to get ruthless.

Our results against this Arsenal side is what worry me, Ole and his team ****s teh bed against them instead of being fearless.

    I tend to agree.
Their league form at least has been improving. 3 wins out of 3 in the PL in recent weeks. They're still very much in the Top 4 mix.

Looking at their remaining games they have some fairly winnable ones (even allowing for their inconsistency.)
Newcastle, Southampton, Burnley, Palace. They'll be targeting wins in those fixtures for sure.

Would love to to see us derail them at OT of course in a couple of weeks :pac:

Totally.....Id rather us win EL and crush Pool's dreams with a win at OT and see Stevie Bruce beat them too.

Look at Leicester and Chelsea remaining games:

Leicester’s final three are against United, Chelsea and spurs. If they haven’t tied up top 4 by these games they are in big trouble.

Chelsea’s tough games on paper are West Ham , City, arsenal (derby), Leicester and villa. There’s room to drop points there especially with CL ties.

I would be surprised if both those don’t drop 6 points in their remaining games. That leaves Chelsea on 69 points and Leicester on 71 at best.

West Ham have Chelsea and Everton and a more easy looking run in on paper but we don’t know how they might react to the pressure of being in the running for such a big prize.

It’s great to be able to sit back and watch all these teams squirm for top 4....

They have a far easier run in than anyone else, even accounting for the funk form they are in

Aye, Liverpool should get 3rd or 4th tbh. It would be great to see them just fall short though, say only needing point on the last day of the season only to be scuppered by a dodgy VAR decision or two.

    a well needed break...

United are the only Premier League club to have played in every single midweek in 2020-21 so far, but their FA Cup exit means that after facing Burnley on Sunday, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a clear run to prepare for the trip to Leeds United seven days later.

pretty crazy when you think about it, although there might have been breaks on a few weekends?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I don't think there were any weekends off since the new year beyond a break for those who were on international duty.

And the run in to 2021 was absolutely crazy too. 5 games in 12 days.

The victory at Spurs is all the more imrpessive when you consider
They arrived back in Manchester Friday lunch time.
Had a short session Saturday morning.
    Travelled to London.
Were still providing instructions to the players in the hotel before the game.

while Spurs had the full week.

I bleet about United lacking a visible tactical structure going forward, and I believe we do, but the fact the club will needing to be focusing so much on recovery with the way the season is (and United aren't unique in that), that has to be a big issue when it comes to changing up gameplans to any real degree.

It is a good point. There has been a few times this season where Utd have had to play Thursday in Europe and then on the Sunday. Other teams have played Tuesday/Wednesday and then don't have a PL game until Monday evening.

Add to that the savage draws United have had in the cups. Id argue PSG, Leipzig and AC Milan are better then anything City have faced so far in their entire CL run to the semi finals.

And our League and FA cup draws were terrible if you wanted to rest some players. We really have not had many games where we can rotate the squad because there hasn't been many easy games on paper.

Hard to argue against the Arsenal inclusions.

Telles has been a great signing. He hasnt blown me away or anything, but he offers such a different weapon to Shaw and is a great option. Mainly though, he lit a fire under Shaws bum and Shaw has excelled.

Shaws and Telles have strengths and weaknesses, but I feel when one isn't working, the other has a different set of skills for a situation. What Shaw lacks, such as crossing ability, striking ability, Telles can offer that.

    17m well spent.

Was Shaw on set piece duties before Telles arrived? He may have taken the odd one before but I don't remember him being first choice set piece taker last year. That's not something I would have even considered 18 months ago and I'd imagine it's no coincidence that it coincides with the arrival of Telles.

used take corners from the RHS i think before bruno. i always prefer outswinging corners cos they seem to cause more confusion, and the attacker can catch it better.
