What beer are we drinking this week? Episode 3

Canvas - Milk Stout v1.2. A grand session style milk stout.

Wander Beyond Brewing - Split Banana Split. Heavy and dark double IPA. Slight banana taste.

The River Brew Co - Big Trouble Al Owa - gets great reviews but I thought it was just ok. A nice maple taste from it.

Evil Twin Brewing - ET Stayed Home 14 - Up there with the best I’ve ever tasted. Basically an alcoholic smoothie so won’t be to everyone’s taste. Officially it’s a Fruited Sour but it’s light on the sour and heavy on the fruit. Immense.

Laguinitas- Willettizzed Coffee Stout. Very good barrel aged strong stout. I’ve had enough barrel aged stouts over lockdown and I’m kind of sick of them but enjoyed this and it’s good.

Wander Beyond - Golden Firefly - A nice pastry stout with a strong biscuity taste. Good.

Arpus - Peach and BlackBerry Sour - Decent without being spectacular.

@bobbysands, I'm not taking the piss here or trying to be smart; I am genuinely curious about this.
Do you also like beer that just tastes of grains, hops and yeast or is it just contemporary flavoured beers that appeal to you?

Don’t mind answering at all.

I love strong flavours so I’m automatically drawn to stout/porter. I basically want to try as many different stouts as I can and I’m running out of all the more normal ones so it’s onto the stranger ones now I suppose.

6 months ago I would have been all about barrel aged stouts but I’ve really had my fill of them. Now, and you’re right, it’s a lot of pastry stouts I’ve been drinking probably mostly because there is a lot of limited edition stouts out there with these flavours so I just want to try them and see what they are like.

Just checking my favourite beers on Untappd and Astral Grains and Guinness itself are near the top but apart from that there is a definite lean towards sweet stouts/sours/Weisse etc... which is set to continue as I have a load more in the fridge to work my way through!

So yeah, I do like the more regular tasting beers a lot as well but the weird ones intrigue me to the point where I have to buy them too.

I haven't liked any Founders "sour" I've had either.

Now, I know it's a site specialising in US beers, but it's an EU site - they should know better. I'm surprised the Lambic folk haven't gone after them!!

They offer a discount for orders that are being shipped. I think it’s 4% over €50, 6% over €100, 8% over €150 up to 15% over €500!

Some of their beers that you can get here can be cheaper there as well. For instance their price on the KBS is €7.29 whereas it’s €9.50 in craft central... so there’s a saving of €2.21 there, couple that with the relevant % discount stated above for shipping and that might assist you in doing the same arithmetic gymnastics that I sometimes do in convincing myself to place a small order.

Porterhouse Chocolate Truffle Stout. Been a couple years since I has this. Slightly more bitter than I remember but still lovely.
