Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. We didn't know he had been 'asked to leak the document'. That is new info.
You claim I have 'moved goalposts' when I have said nothing different since this has broken.

We did know he was asked by O'Toole. We have known since 4 November when the screenshots of the conversation between Matt O'Toole and Simon Harris were released, where O'Toole asked him for a copy of the document.

No idea why you would claim that this isn't the case.

Going around in circles here. I've made the facts clear, some people just seem like they would prefer their own facts.

Did you miss the word 'also' in the article? He was 'also' asked by O'Toole.

Stop digging here Bubba, Harris has revealed new info.

What do you think the 'also' means?

Pretty clear to me that it means he was also approached by O'Toole, as we knew, but you seem to have some other interpretation of it? I'm curious now as to what you think that is?

Who else do you think asked him?

He was 'advised' that anything he said may arise in a court. He said he was asked to leak the doc, and that he was 'also' asked by O'Toole.

    This is absurd.

Anyone can see that this admission changes the situation. The deflection by several here is transparent. It indicates what will certainly be the last gasps of the boards.ie FG defence team.

Now that Harris has disclosed that he was indeed asked to leak the information and but refused to, it obviously shows that the then-health minister (who would have been the person with authority over this document) decided it couldn't go to O'Toole.

Leo gave the contract to Matt because they were friends and he was worried their union might turn against their party during the election. He used his position of privilege to curry favour with this buddy in spite of the fact that it undermined and directly threw Harris under the bus. It also conferred a more advantageous bargaining position to the rival doctors' union. It also boosted Leo's standing while sh!tting on Harris.

Harris wouldn't leak these documents. It's a huge development. It warrants discussion and no we should not "just let the gards do their job" because we're entitled to discuss proceedings when the former leader of the country is this crooked. It is very worrying that there is active suppression of the discourse here by certain users, what's the problem with talking about this major news story???

Wow. Certainly an interesting interpretation of that article from you Francie. No wonder you think there is new information in it. That's not how it reads at all though.

To me it is very clearly saying that he was also contacted by O'Toole, separate to Varadkar being contacted by O'Toole. As we knew.

I can see now why you were so confused with my posts though, certainly clears it up.

One thing for sure, 'old' news or not, when it is in the papers in the morning, it will get a whole new lease of life.
Despite what has been said over the last few months, this story doesn't look like it's going to go away, and all of the people with this newly acquired information will have to either support Leo or risk being called a homophobe or a racist..

This story is not going away anytime soon.

    But Leo might be!

What will it take for the FG and Leo supporters on here to realise that this is serious? Don't try and bring SF into this as its not about them but Leo and his wrongdoing which he has admitted to doing.

So it’s absolute gobsh*** Paddy Cosgrave that’s behind this story. How can people stand over this during a pandemic? Our country needs a stable Government right now and this is the priority of multi millionaire hypocrite Cosgrave.
An attack on Government over issues that happened before Covid.
And the Shinner cheerleaders here with all their own IRA, army council links cheerleading this like they’re upstanding law abiding citizens.

    Irish Indepednent:
“Bowes was introduced to Village publisher Michael Smith by Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave, an outspoken critic of the Government. "He [Cosgrave] suggested to me that Village would be the place to run the story - and he was right because no one else wanted it," Bowes said, adding that Cosgrave was a friend whom he is working with on a number of health reform projects.”

    Also Paddy Cosgrave:

“ Cosgrave criticised the Irish tax system, which was rejected as hypocrisy as Amaranthine, an investment fund set up by Cosgrave with other Web Summit founders, is based in California but registered in Delaware - an effective tax shelter.”

What will it take for Sinn Fein to put Ireland first for once, instead of getting into bed with Paddy Cosgrave to write smear stories about Varadkar who’s also been subject to death threats.
How could anyone vote for them - their priorities aren’t jobs, reopening the country, health of our citizens, the monumental task of getting Ireland out of the pandemic, it’s this.
There’s been an online hate campaign against Varadkar, separate to this issue which is shameful and could have led to the death threats.
SF should be careful getting into bed with Cosgrave, he’s a dangerous individual who throws his toys out of the pram very quickly if he thinks he won’t be running the SF government from the sidelines.

This thread is about Leo leaking documents, have you any comment on that topic

Jesus, are people that desperate for gossip that they're now jizzing the jocks over information that was in the original "story" from the village? Hopping up and down because a bellend like Paddy Cosgrave says it's a new development. Engage the brain lads...the DM between O'Toole and Harris was in the first story.

Just let the gardaí do their job. If it's such an open and shut case we'll no doubt see the DPP recommending charges. In the meantime you'll save yourselves having to wash new sets of Y-fronts if you stop following Paddy Cosgrave on twitter.

Good take off of Varadkar and Co in the latest Callans Kicks where he has his own podcast called Leo's Lense (or something). "I'm just an ordinary guy, like no other".

Good call Paddy, on the button.

There’s a coterie out there who have latched on to Varadkar as someone to be ‘taken down’ and are slowly emerging from under their slates.

Instead of helping the country in a positive and constructive way these bells
are pumping out their own agenda and once that keeps them in the limelight they don’t give a toss about the country, and will walk away when when they have done their dirty work.

    Wake up folk.

So Leo asked Harris to give a copy of the confidential document to his friend the head union lad and Harris refused?

Then Leo, Mr. Smug, simply makes a copy and sends it to his chum via taxi.

There's no way that man can be trusted in public office.

No. Paddy Cosgraves tweet just happened to be the first tweet I found with a picture of the front of the mail on Sunday, to suggest he's "behind the story" because he tweeted an article is complete and utter nonsense and highly dishonest.

The rest of your long winded whataboutery is also irrelevant, and you've been told this each time you appear in the thread to suggest laws and ethics should be suspended because of the pandemic*.

*Speaking of which, I see month later and Leo hasn't given Roisin Shorthall a response on the dodgy ventilators, apparently "events manager" quirke had a political contact personally involved in helping him secure the deal.

Not true, word for word the Irish Independent have the quote that it was Cosgrave who’s a ‘close friend’ of Chay Bowes that set it all up with the Village. You’re actually spouting lies, nonsense and trying to deflect.
The fact that someone like Cosgrave is behind this, and wants to destabilise our country at this time with so much anger & dissent out there re the restrictions is a disgrace.
He does not have your interests on his mind, he has his.

Read the article in print edition. Gardai are seriously peeved about Varadkar going on Pat Kenny and laying out events as he sees it and stressing he did nothing illegal. He especially should not be commenting on it.

That is true, but is not much of a revelation. The GP union (NAGP) had been loudly, and very publicly, calling for the information on Twitter, so the fact that they directly asked Harris should not come as a surprise. Furthermore, Harris may have felt he would require his boss' imprimatur to provide such information: after all the GP union had been blocked from receiving the information because of Varadkar's policy in relation to medical cards. Finally this doesn't imply illegality. It is quite clear that despite vacating the office of minister of health, that Varadkar wanted to mini-manage it. I also feel that he didn't treat Harris with a huge amount of respect in his capacity as Health minister. One might cynically wonder if the very young, inexperienced Harris was given the ministry well known to be a poisoned chalice to be a patsy of sorts.

Leo gave the contract to Matt because they were friends and he was worried their union might turn against their party during the election.

The union was already very clearly opposed to the government.

No it didn't. NAGP was frozen out of negotiations. The deal with the IMO was in no jeopardy. NAGP had already had the legs cut from underneath them and were on the verge of going under (they only lasted another two months before their crippling debt destroyed them).

It also boosted Leo's standing while sh!tting on Harris.

    No doubt.

Well at least this is a news story. It's not a particularly revealing one, but at least it isn't inane discourse about how one can measure Leo's friendliness, or using inaccurate analysis in relation to precedents set for resignation, which together must account for about 80 pages of content in this thread.

The McCabe situation was more complex than that and he got wrongly linked to something by Tusla, which followed him like a bad smell and undermined any credibility he might have had. You can't really bench Varadkar unless they get to a point where a legal case is pending. If that happens FG will probably vote to replace him anyway.

I don't bat for any of the three government parties.
Yet you feel personally obliged to dissect my post.
That is true, but is not much of a revelation. The GP union (NAGP) had been loudly, and very publicly, calling for the information on Twitter, so the fact that they directly asked Harris should not come as a surprise.
Great, so there's no doubt that they directly benefitted from Leo leaking it to them. That's one of the requirements for corruption in office.
Furthermore, Harris may have felt he would require his boss' imprimatur to provide such information: after all the GP union had been blocked from receiving the information because of Varadkar's policy in relation to medical cards. Finally this doesn't imply illegality.
You're omitting the fact that Harris was requesting a copy of it himself at the time. He hadn't even cleared that version of it and he was the bleedin health minister.
That seems like exactly what happened. Micro-managing isn't a crime but going behind the backs of those making up your ministry, providing confidential information for personal gain... The fact that he did this will likely be the determining factor in this case.
The union was already very clearly opposed to the government.
So there's even less doubt about his motivations for leaking this.
No it didn't. NAGP was frozen out of negotiations.
By whom? Not by Varadkar seemingly.
The deal with the IMO was in no jeopardy. NAGP had already had the legs cut from underneath them and were on the verge of going under (they only lasted another two months before their crippling debt destroyed them).
You're right, but at the time they seemed pretty happy about getting this on the WhatsApp group.
Well at least this is a news story. It's not a particularly revealing one, but at least it isn't inane discourse about how one can measure Leo's friendliness, or using inaccurate analysis in relation to precedents set for resignation, which together must account for about 80 pages of content in this thread.
Agreed. I didn't contribute to any of that because I felt that it was more transparent distraction tactics by Leo supporters and felt it would be a waste of my time.
My posts are all in relation to who is behind this hate campaign against him. It had to be someone with money, Paddy Cosgrave. Have you any comment on that?
Now there's an irrelevant and completely unfounded claim.

Imagine if those of us who are glad to see this corrupt arsehole smeared came out with something that spurious. The FG 4 would be all over us like a bad rash.

Quite a disturbing development this morning, the Indo reporting Leo to get 24 hour armed protection, relates to odious threats coming from the North. Whatever one's feelings on this story, this behaviour needs to be condemned.

Quite a disturbing development this morning, the Indo reporting Leo to get 24 hour armed protection, relates to odious threats coming from the North. Whatever one's feelings on this story, this behaviour needs to be condemned.
