Sony STR DN1050 clunking noise when off

    Hi,

    I have a Sony STR-DN1050 which I purchased from Richersounds about 6 years ago and it's been great but it has started doing something odd over the last year. It makes a clunking noise randomly when off, it's the same noise it makes when it's turned off or on, it's hard to describe but anyone who has one will know what the noise is. 

    I've done a bit of googling on it and some people suggested it could be speaker cable touching or a faulty relay. So, I have put banana plugs on the terminals on the rear of the receiver and I'll see how it goes.

    Has anyone ever come across this, I need to be sure that the unit isn't faulty or a danger from a fire risk point of view.

    Hi Kagawa.

    Sorry to hear you are having an issue with your receiver.

    It does sound like it could be a relay that is switching on and off internally.
    If it is randomly happening and not only when changing sources or switching on and off it could be developing a fault.

    We have no engineers based here at the store so I could give a more definite answer unfortunately.

    One thing you could try also is to disconnect all your speakers and leave the amp running to see if it still does it and then connect one speaker at a time to see if you can replicate the issue.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph.
