My issues with them is the constantly increasing monthly charges, and as a previous poster pointed out, the sneaky way of alerting you to the renewal. I guess if you are hyper-vigilant on the renewal not going unnoticed, and can agree the same monthly fee, and you are happy to pay it, it's worth it. Unfortunately I am a moron, and my monthly fee went from around 16 quid per month to 36 or so, over a few years (moving from Eircom to Phonewatch) with no system upgrade etc. So I left (in the very small window they give you to actually leave).

    that was some increse

Installed my own self monitoring alarm system last year. Wireless system from AJAX with all the gizmos. The only reoccurring fee I have is €5 every 6 months to top up the sim card I use as back up for the main app.

Can you pm me the websiite please with some more details on this, its sounds brilliant, thanks!

For the sake of 33 euro you are better off not claiming the discount. It’ll be the day you don’t turn it on where your robbed. Or if you go to bed without setting it.

    Here’s Allianz T and C

    E02 – Security precautions 2
You agree to maintain the alarm installation in accordance with the suppliers recommendations and to have the alarm switched on and in service on all practical occasions, at night and when the property is left vacant or unattended.

Just on this. We paid an extra 50euro for our insurance to opt out of this.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

    Hi lads

Had about 40 requests through PM for the company I got the AJAX kit from! So here's the PM I sent a few.

    I bought my kit from:

    megateh.eu

    Estonian company.

Did a fair bit of research and they were the best value around Europe that actually seemed reputable.
The other company I considered was:

    best-alarm-system.eu

I think they are Dutch. Bit more expensive but they offer warranty if that's your thing. Prices may have changed in last year though.

Delighted with the Ajax I must say. So simple to set up with any basic DIY and tech knowhow.
Obviously pay more upfront but not paying the monitoring fees means its paid for itself in a couple of years.

The app is great but I also added a Vodafone sim to the hub. It works as a back up in case the hub loses Internet access and the hub itself has a 24 hour back up battery that'll kick in if the power goes down.
The Vodafone sim only needs topping up by €5 every 6 months so that's the only ongoing fees I have after the initial outlay.

Lots of interest in the AJAX system. I'd just add that it is discussed a lot over on the Home Automation Forum in this thread if anyone is interested:

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2058052081

There is actually a security company in Ireland called Home Secure, which do professional installs and monitoring with the AJAX system. Might be handy for those who don't want to DIY. Ironically it was reported in the Irish Times yesterday that Home Secure have just been bought out by the parent company of Phonewatch!
Just on this. We paid an extra 50euro for our insurance to opt out of this.

When I did the same with my insurance company and they said it would cost extra, I said fine, I'd shop around for quotes from other insurance companies so and she said hold on and came back and said there would be no extra charge for dropping the alarm, since I was such a good customer!
