. One significant thing to note is that you can't just bring in a car from GB to NI and pass it off as a 'NI' car; the car has to have been registered in the North originally (or before the end of December 2020) to get around paying VAT and customs duties when registering here.

Correct you can’t simply route an English car via NI to reduce vat and duty but it’s not to correct to say that cars registered post 2021 are not eligible. You can still buy a Jan 2021 NÍ registered car today, eg an ex demo, and import without duty and vat due

Sterling has gotten strong and VRT has gone up so bargains are much harder to find in fairness

Looks very good in fairness. What will it cost in Ireland if it’s expected to be £50k+ in the UK?

Seems expensive for what's presumably a model 3 competitor?

One thing it will certainly have over tesla is impressive build quality. I was speaking to a car detailer recently who does a lot of high end cars, porsche, ferrari etc and he said the tesla build quality is shocking, particularly the paint finish.

Indeed, Tesla are very badly slapped together. But sure, as we keep on being told, they're not a car company :pac:
In saying that if a model 3 is €20k less than the BMW offering the BMW would still look rather pricey.

In Ireland a 420d coupe m sport is over 60k on the road. Gran coupe generally more expensive again.
Can’t see BMW selling this for much less than 70k before options here and the faster models will be more again.

To me it looks a bit too much like the old 3 Series GT, which is not good. I’m sure it’ll look better in black, grey or blue and with better wheels, but as a current 4GC owner I’m underwhelmed. Still looking forward to seeing it in the metal whenever we’re allowed back into dealerships to kick tyres again.

The new ix electric starting at 80k here so maybe the i4 will be less than 70k but not much I guess.
Might be a good fit for you Digiman instead of x5 45e?

    I agree. Looks like a cross between a 4gc and 3gt.
Hopefully with m sport trim and right colour combo will improve. The blue trim pieces look terrible in my opinion.

Not a fan at all of the iX, i4 doesn’t look great either. Maybe if I seen them with an MSport look I’d change my mind.

I really don’t like these blue “electric” trim they put on them. Hopefully get a look at the interior of the i4 soon to see what it’s like.

I rang an Audi dealer about prices for the A6 Avant hybrid, they didn’t have any and had to go to Audi Ireland to get them! I read earlier that they have increased the battery size in the hybrid versions now as well so would be around 70km on wlpt which isn’t bad at all for a hybrid. Boot appears fairly compromised though

Did Audi Ireland get back with prices? Assume it's 2 to 3k above saloon prices like for like?

And yes, it's getting interesting for PHEV's with the longer ranges starting to appear. Audi has 18 kwh battery or something like that.
    C class is similar.

    Nothing back yet, hopefully tomorrow.

The saloon prices are not on the website either and the product guide is from Jan 2020!!

I found audi.ie very poor. No option to select digital cockpit for a6 diesels either, I don't think it's become standard. I was in a dealership before Xmas and that caught the salesman out too.
Theres a good few a6 phev on donedeal though, some nice discounts from what I thought the starting prices were.

    This one, for example

Actually the iX is not as bad as I originally thought, you can configure it with msport and different allows and colours now and you can make it look a decent bit better. I’d say it will be around the €100k mark here for the long range model.

Will be interested to see how you can configure the i4 and what type of money the top spec one comes in at.

It’s up on the BMW.ie website already. The long range is about 110k if I remember correctly. Don’t know if you get more kit with it but it’s a big jump.

When an "all the car you'll ever need" 520d m sport is €58k (presuming BMW.ie is correct) the prices of EV stuff that doesn't seem 1.5 times the car seems mental tbh.

Good value there with a pre reg A6 50eTSI for under 54k, never checked the prices of those but surprised they aren’t closer to 70k with 300bhp on board

Yeah I thought closer to 70k myself. They're the 50tfsie, there is also a 55tfsie with 367bhp. I think the one you saw for 54k was a sport, personally speaking I'd only buy an s line.
    58k for the s line I linked.

I see Colm Quinn have a new M4 in.
I actually like the look of these and the M3. I reckon the grille looks good and we will think the smaller grille loooks old fashioned soon enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,258 ✭✭✭Andrewf20

I really think the new M4 is an awful looking thing. The side profile doesnt look elegant at all. Nor the grill we all love to hate.

The bodywork just looks wrong on side profile - like a kitcar lookalike or something. I cant put my finger on it but its not looking right.
The idea of the big grill is not the problem either it the actual way this one is designed. Its like something that lepu fella would do on banglo bangers. It doesnt meet the front of the car properly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

It's over designed and too fussy looking I think.

Chris Harris touches on it when comparing the new m3 to previous model. He's spot on about the wing mirror.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

It's also the first M3/M4 to not have the bonnet power bulge since the E36.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,904 ✭✭✭hooch-85

I'm normally pretty dismissive of people who knock new model generations without having any first hand real world knowledge of them or how they drive but on looks alone I honestly could see no reason why anyone could prefer this to the previous generation.

The F series cars are still "new" to me, I think the F80 M3 is one of the nicest saloon cars ever made to be honest, I'd only love to be able to afford one.
I'd also take MM's M4 over this new one all day long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Much prefer the look of the M3 over the M4.
Might be sacrilege but I would wait for the four wheel drive version and I guess this will outsell the rear drive model as time passes.

I don't think we will be seeing too many on these shores anyway. These are now 120k plus cars here before you even look at the options list.

And they're in the €2,350.00 tax bracket.
