I am on Disability allowance and may inherit a one acre site and some money in the future. I would hope to build a small house on the site.

I read on Boards.ie that in such a situation the Department of Social Protection will grant a certain amount of time to build a house as a primary residence.

Does anyone have any more details about this, the amount of time allowed etc?

No, only if you sell a house you own in order to buy or rent one more suitable for your needs. This is the only instance some leeway is given.
