I only saw the trailer, but just didnt generate anything for me, i think it will be forgotten pretty quickly, I hope it was cheap to make

Think I'll save myself the torture/tarnishing of the original film based on the above and just say "what sequel?"

I guess Amazon/Netflix is the new straight-to-DVD regardless of Covid.

Had 15 mins left to watch of no 2 and just turned it off and went to bed... pure dirt.. thought the first one was a classic but to me, it’s obvious the actors have made their millions since and didn’t even try act for this ... so what ya get is a weak storyline, lazy acting ... pointless waste of time

The only actor that put any energy in was Wesley snipes

Even by the standards of life we've all had the last 12 months, I've had a shíte week and was really looking forward to this Film cheering me up tonight

But based on what I'm reading here, there's no way this can be a "highlight" of the week for me :pac:

So I think I'll skip this for now and go looking for another great Film. Recently my Saturday Film was a re-watch of the amazing Edge Of Tomorrow, so I'm looking for something as great

Saturday night lockdown Films shouldn't be mediocre, or - by the looks of things with the reviews here - shíte ones

That's not really fair as Netflix have had some fantastic and award winning films.

Have people saying how great the first one was watched it recently or going off years old memories?

I was wary of this, a sequel to a classic decades later. But I’d started to think if they’re doing it now they must have something good... they didn’t, it’s absolute tripe and almost completely unfunny. So many talented people involved and this is the best they could come up with?!

I last watched the first one within the last year - very good film and miles better than this sequel. Must watch it again during the week to compare better.

Yep, I only re-watched it a few months ago and it’s still hilarious. I’m surprised to see people question whether it was good at all tbh, ‘The Rewatchables’ only did an episode on it last month too.

I thought it was very poor. I was really looking forward to it and ready for a laugh but only had about 2 laughs during the whole thing.

I saw poor reviews but google users was 88% so thought it might be the usual bias some reviewers might have, "sequel haters" etc. I am puzzled how it got such a high rating on google, its now 84%.

does your definition of racist make this impossible or something?

I do think the original is overrated to begin with. It was certainly no Trading Places or BHC. Was also the start of him doing the goofy multiple characters thing which was never that great. And only got worse later with the Nutty Professor.

Darryl was the funniest one anyway, so without him it was an uphill struggle!

And it’s well known that Eddie simply isn’t funny anymore.

I thought dolemite was OK. I had a few original dolemite dvds and was again really looking forward to it, i.e. going in expecting it to be great & trying my best to enjoy it (like I was for this sequel) but thought it was just OK, maybe 7/10. A friend highly recommended it to me thinking it was right up my street.

I would give coming 2 america 4/10 tops.

Watched it last night and how I wish I had a DeLorean to get that time back.

During the film they mention about why sequels should not be made if original is good and they should have listened to their own advice.

    Only saving grace was music

I won't quote Comic Book guy and his catchphrase but you get my drift

    Yes as they're culturally different.

Why don't you think this is possible?

To me it's a bit like old fashioned British comedians telling Irish jokes.

The first film was also criticised for the same reasons.

Basically drop the African from African Americans and you're left with Americans ridiculing Africans and that's the point.

On the first one, heard of people howling at the barbershop bits, I never got it. Funniest parts were Darryl and the Soul Glo ad.

But agree, it’s more of light and humerous love story than a hilarious comedy. And tbh, there were signs Eddie had already peaked and this was the start of the slide.

Was still a solid 7/10 though.

30 mins left to go and turned it off. Switched to Fukishma 50. Now that was a good uplifting movie even if the subject was harrowing.

Absolutely not true. He's still one of the funniest men on earth.

His episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfield was hilarious. And he was barely trying

Apart from a couple of exceptions like Bowfinger and Dolemite Is My Name, its the Films he's chosen for two decades or more now that are the utter dregs

But Murphy himself is still funny

Is it like Irish Americans making piss poor movie portrayals of Irish people?
    Who cares?

Okay, maybe he is still funny, but he was off the charts electric in the 80s, like I'd be doubled over watching his stand up and most of his films then. Billy Ray Valentine is one of all time favourite characters. I dunno what happened, around 1990 he just lost that "I don't know what", as they say in France.

But yeah maybe it was just bad choices, and chasing easy money that was the problem.

I've been hearing for a while he's interested in going back to basics, and trying the standup again. I'd be interested in that. But he can't make jokes about "******s" and AIDs these days. Can he do the PC stuff?

48 hrs, trading places, absolutely must see films at the time, Coming to America was more his cash grab phase.
If this film had been in the cinema it would be a massive bomb

    Just watched it there.
It's nothing compared to the original. But that was expected. Starts out alright, dips a good bit but by the end it's not all that bad.

It's not the best movie you will watch. It's not the worst either.

yep early 80's he could do no wrong and then for some reason he got lazy and started doing formulated muck - maybe to feed his cocaine habit or payoff his alimonies
