Ok, I'm a single person approved for HAP and my limit is 360. So eg... Rent is 800.... HAP pays 360? I contribute 70euro a week (20% of income) so 360+280 = 640 monthly ... So not only do I pay 70 a week I then pay the remaining balance of 260 a month to the landlord?? Or have I got HAP all wrong??

You have to give the landlord 440 and HAP gives him 360.

The % of income you pay goes to the council. It'd be less than 20% and if you're paying extra above the HAP payment to your landlord that is taken into account. There is details for Clare here but to be honest I can't work it out
