I heard a rumour last night that Disney+ will cut out the Jim Crow scene out of the original Dumbo film because of racial insensitivity. Disney+ will not show Song of the South on it either.

Song of the South isn't surprising. I don't think that ever received a DVD or VHS release even! It hasn't been commercially available for years!

I don't agree with cutting the older cartoons, but I am very aware that I am not among those who would be offended by the depictions personally. I do think that they need to be called out, and the current approach of warnings, and removing some of the films (Peter Pan for one) from kids profile is a good middle ground of preserving the media, and educating people - those who forget history, are doomed to repeat it.

They own the IP anyway and can complete or release any of the titles through Disney animation.
Production on the Patrick Osborne-directed Nimona, which is dated for January 14, 2022, is being stopped and the film will no longer be released, Deadline has learned. Nimona, which had 10 months of production still left to complete

Yeah, it's easy (for a white male such as me) to say "What's the problem, it was a long time ago?" But I do think it would be interesting to see these on the Stars section complete with warning and maybe an introduction putting things in context.

I remember years ago buying the Loony Toons collection on DVD. The last volume of the collection contained the more culturally insensitive films: Specifically the earliest ones and the war propaganda ones. They had an introduction and warnings on the cases and discs themselves.

I do think it is important to retain these movies, painful as they may be for some people. If only to remind people of past (And present) attitudes

Song of the south WAS released on both VHS & later DVD.

Were withdrawn along time ago, never to be released again.
