Wi-Fi problem. Help Needed

    Hi,
I started up a laptop that hadn't been used for a couple of years. Seems to be working Ok. Problem connecting with the Wi-Fi.

It only picks up the house Wi-fi when I am right beside the router in the hall. Doesn't work in any other room. All other devies pick up signal fine. Strange thing here is the laptop is picking up the neighbour's signal from a distance. It also picks up my phone hot-spot no problem.

I did take it apart and reassemble it as I had to fix the hinges. But I don't think that has affected it.

Any suggestions to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You may have disconnected the antenna's that go around the screen and through the hinge then onto the WiFi card. You can check if the are both connected should be black and white cables connected to card you may have pulled them off card doing hinge

Thanks. I will have a look at that. But if I pulled them off, shouldn't the laptop just pick up no wi-fi signal from anywhere?

Just to say thanks again. Checked the chip. One of the wires was touching the chip but not connected.. all sorted now. Cheers.
