I'm glad people have enjoyed it and I have no deep rooted resentment towards it, got my refund. I would say though if you take games like Destiny or the Division, which I've played extensively on console, there's an argument these are very different games on PC but remain a good experience on console.

I did avoid most of the pre-release hype, so didn't have any expectations going in. I did also really like The Last of Us 2, so maybe there's something wrong with me :)

I'm not a big fan of it overall, but I think The Last of Us 2 - for all its many storytelling flaws - feels like a complete game that was precisely what the creators intended it to be. It was misguided IMO in some of what it wanted to say (and how it wanted to say it), but it doesn't feel like a compromised game... quite the opposite if anything.

Cyberpunk does feel compromised, where corners were clearly cut and ambitions unrealised. While I was ultimately so-so on TLOU2, it didn't feel as fundamentally under-baked as CP2077 does IMO.

Yea, whether you agree with where they went with TLOU or not (personally I loved it), no one can argue that ND didn't make the exact game that they wanted to make.

I do believe Cyberpunk will eventually be the game that CDPR wanted to make, but it is going to take the best part of another 2 years.

The biggest issue with these attacks is not the content/source code itself, but any potential HR or personal employee details. It's possible they have the contact details, address, salary/bank details etc. of every employee who worked on the game.

I've had a relatively bug-free experience, and had a lot more issues with Assassins Creed Valhalla than with Cyberpunk. Having seen some of the console gameplay, it definitely looks like a completely different game to what I've played, though.

There's nothing wrong with you. Most people like TLOUp2 which is why it has a 60% completion rate (despite being too long for its own good). Its detractors are loud but in the minority.

It already is the game CDPR wanted to make.
They are working now to get it closer to what we wanted them to make, but it will never be the game they promised and the game we expected.

Isn't that what Gordon said to his young lad at the end of The Dark Knight.

It would probably need to feature 'deserve' in there somewhere to fully qualify for a Gordon mention.

It’s the patch Night City deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt it, because it can take it. Because it’s not our hero. It’s a silent guardian. A watchful protector. Cyberpunk 2077 v2.0.

I really feel sorry for them now, some say the auctions for the source code for the red engine and their games are legit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,583 ✭✭✭Cordell

Unless there's some stuff there that they were looking to keep as a trade secret or to patent I don't see how will this affect them.
But there may be other stuff, like internal documents and communication, that may be a big big problem depending of the contents. Think memos like "we release on time no matter how the game runs they won't ask for their money back for a good while at least"

Seems like they put more attention into shutting down sex mods than they did securing their servers. F'n corpos.

The Valve leak didn't amount to much so I doubt this will, either. People got paranoid about increased TF2 hacking but nothing much has come of it. Will be interesting to see if the code gets into the hands of anyone interested in mods, though. Modders got shafted on that pathetic SDK for Witcher 3 and now are being told there's 'off limits' content for Cyberpunk. Looks like it's back to 'porn' forums and other unpopular places in order to just get a mod that like "Deathable children" because it could offend someone on reddit or nexus.

I mean, technically there are no children in Cyberpunk. They took adult models and shrunk them down. It's why they look so bloody weird. :P

I do think that "laser tag" mission you do with Ward's kids was one of the funniest missions in the game though.

Don’t know why people are gloating over this hack online, it’s just going to slow any fixes or patches.

You know it’s bad when Sean Murray is taking a swipe at you.

What's the story with this game now. I haven't been following is it still a mess to play or did they fix the issues?

I started a play at launch, saw around 5 glaring bugs in the first hour or so.

I restarted after the January patch, and played to the same point.
There was less issues, and if it was my original play I probably would have kept going but I decided to hold off for the Feb patch.

    XBSX FWIW

    Yeah, totally unexpected :)
They should release nothing for a year or two and focus on delivering what they promised.

Just saw this now through the Xbox.

I'd been keeping an eye on it as I was waiting to start it.

I wasnt overly annoyed about the previous issues and delays but I'm a bit annoyed now.

First they said it was January. Then it was a Jan/Feb patch with the Jan patch downplayed in scope. And now its another month again.

If I didnt have the disc version and there was a way to refund it, I'd have done it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,583 ✭✭✭Cordell

I'd say there's very little point in waiting. Play it as it is, it's not a bad game, and it's never going to be what we were promised anyway.

Having refunded on playstation, was a bit hesitant to get it on PC instead before a few patches but saw if for €30 so said i might aswell. Also got a new 3080 so thought was a good game to try it out.

Played about 15hrs,enjoyed it,I like the game. Did encounter a few weird bugs though so said ill wait for the 1.2 patch to continue, which was about 2 weeks ago.

Shame they didn't make the date but I do feel that the attack has taken it out of their hands. If the game had launched to critical acclaim and everyone loved it I doubt this delay would be felt so keenly.

In the context of how the game actually launched though, its just another thing for people to beat them over the head with. As much as the problems were their own making i bet CDPR would love to go back and do it differently. It does feel like a bit of a dumpster fire:P

    Just gonna leave this here:
I remember a while back Sean Murray from Hello Games said that when it comes to making up a for bad launch that devs should basically not say a word about what they plan to do to make it right and just get to work. At the time I completely supported his statement but others disagreed, saying that gamers who paid are "owed" an update on progress. I still maintain that Sean Murray was right and this rubbish apology from "cdpred" is peak example of why.

The most obvious problem with roadmap apologies is that much like Bioware and their (undoubtedly dead) Anthem "comeback" you cannot predict the future, especially in this current climate. There may be unforeseen circumstances beyond the company's control and so this CEO guy may be unwittingly making promises that will be broken.

What was the Sean Murray swipe?

It wasn't really a swipe... If anything it was a bit of self deprecating humour. He was wondering why No Man's Sky was trending recently and then he realised it was in relation to Cyberpunk's bad launch.

I actually feel sorry for them now. The hack was just kicking someone, when they are down.

I think it is best for them to shut up and working on the patch and update everyone in a couple of months, when they have something to show for it.

There is definitely a good game here, if they can fix there mess.

I'm not entirely sure if the hack really had much of an impact on the schedule of patches or whether that was once again CDPR lying to cover up incompetence. From the moment they downplayed the January patch (whereas previously they made out it was part 1 of two major patches) I knew the second patch was doomed.

I work in enterprise app development, and a few years ago we had a small number of machines infected with a virus, and we were down for little over a week cleaning things up and making sure things were secure. Thankfully, the only damage was lost time, no data or anything was lost or stolen. The type of attack we had was relatively minor compared to what is being described by CDPR.

I can well believe that they lost 2 or 3 week at least to this initially, and there seems to be ongoing issues, with stolen source code and not to mention employee data.

Now, they could be using the attack as an excuse, and they could have been well behind already. If we don't see a patch in March, then I reckon you are right in your estimation.

I'd give some sympathy to the actual development team - trying to fix a game as broken as this one while working from home is a genuine challenge I'm sure (with or without a major hack), especially with a management team like CDPR's. Throwing out dates is also a shortcut to delays, as CDPR should well know after many uses of a certain yellow text box.

That said, I think CDPR have a big problem to overcome when the patches do drop: apathy. This isn't a game that requires people to stick around for months after release... most players will have moved on by the time the big patches drop, simply because it's a single player game. Very possible they'll surprise us and have some much-needed mechanical overhauls in some of these initial patches, but the substantial new content seems very far away at this stage - and the free DLC (which, if it's similar to Witcher 3 standards, will be relatively minor) will be so long after the fact that I can't see people flocking back for a quest or two and a few new clothing items. Hopefully their ambitions for the free updates are a bit grander than that - they probably have to be at this rate, TBH!

If ever a game was in need of a major expansion pack, it's this one - and I'd be surprised if we see it drop before 2022, which would be a long time after release. They have the benefit of a large install base, but motivating people to boot it up again months or a year after the fact will be a bit of a challenge.

Really is there any saving it? From what I've seen of it watching herself playing it on PC even if they fix the bugs it's nothing out of this world as a game and even if it ran flawlessly it was never living up to the hype. To top it off this was meant to / maybe still has multiplayer down the track and I can only imagine what state that is in.

This hurts them going forward too with what ever they do next. My money is on them returning to their bread and butter but given the development cycles they have we'll see the next Witcher game in what 2025-26

The word Icarus comes to mind now.
