Is it better than the US Office though?

It's almost a draw between them for me

I always felt like the office was better at the comedy, P&R had a bit more heart beyond the jokes.

Which is best depends on what you'd put more weight in.

    Not a competition for me!;)
P&R, US Office, 30 Rock and Sunny are just the business.

Only caught up on this last year and enjoyed it.....BUT....

Myself and the missus watched the first three episodes of the last series but just stopped watching it :-(

There was no discussion or specific reason but we abandoned it and no signs of going back tbh...it just got a bit tired imho and the actors seemed to be phoning it in a bit.

    Anyway tldr:
Is it worth us going back and watching the rest of the last series??

We'll probably go back to it at some point....I think we might have overdosed on it a bit...not quite binge watching but we watched it relatively quickly

It can be that way, we ploughed through the entire thing not so long ago and Jerry's treatment by others really started to annoy me.

Maybe in bite sized doses it might not have been noticeable but watching one episode after the other made it seem like relentless bullying.

Midway through the third series now. Probably my favourite line so far:
Pawnee's an incredibly superstitious town. A traveling magician came through one time, and he pulled a rabbit out of a hat, and the mob burned him at the stake for being a witch. The year was 1973.

    :D

I’ve watched and rewatched this. Loved it for the most part.

The bullying of Jerry is so out of sync with the rest of this show. And completely needless. Otherwise nice people acting the maggot.

The absolute best moment and peak Leslie was when she and Ron weren’t taking and locked into the office together. Just perfect.

How many seasons of it in total are there?..I can't remember how much past 5 I got..

Yeah, it's getting to the stage where I'm just going to watch it again..

    Terry wasn’t it?

Anyway they gave him an amazing home life to make up for it.

Was Terry for a while, also Larry, Garry and maybe others i forget too. He seemed happy out regardless and they fulfilled his dream by making him mayor i think. Episode they tried to make Tom the new Jerry (!) was great.

I used to love when Ben got really annoyed by Gary having such a hot wife.

The interesting thing about p&r is how they kept the headshots and interviews from the Office, however it’s not really a mockumentary format. Just gives us a way to get peoples opinions.

Finishd the third series now. Overall I'm really enjoying it, although sometimes I find the quality can be up and down between episodes. Some feel like filler, whilst others are brilliant.

    I loved this though
Leslie: [reading aloud Pawnee's various former slogans] "Pawnee, the Paris of America". "Pawnee, the Akron of southwest Indiana". "Pawnee, Welcome, German soldiers". After the Nazis took France, our mayor kind of panicked. "Pawnee, the factory fire capital of America". "Pawnee, Welcome, Vietnamese soldiers". "Pawnee, engage with Zorp". For a brief time in the '70s, our town was taken over by a cult. "Pawnee, Zorp is dead. Long live Zorp". "Pawnee, it's safe to be here now". "Pawnee, birthplace of Julia Roberts". That was a lie, she sued and so we had to change it. "Pawnee, Home of the World Famous Julia Roberts lawsuit". "Pawnee, Welcome, Taliban soldiers". And finally, our current slogan: "Pawnee, First in Friendship, Fourth in Obesity".

    :pac:

I'm trying to keep the momentum going with a re-watch of The West Wing. I knew if I stopped watching the very patchy Season 5 that I'd never return to it

So I only started the Parks and Rec re-watch last night and "yikes!" @ the first episode. I forgot how shíte it was

Thankfully you can see some little signs of improvement with the second and third episode

    Oh and compulsory gif ...

I'm actually jealous because of you all because I rewatched P&R during lockdown one! Feel like I'm missing out now!

I started watching for the first time in late summer and finished the whole lot just before Christmas.

Thought it was really good for the most part.
Ron Swanson is my new hero.
    Thought Rob Lowe was brilliant.
And I just loved Lesley. Throughout the whole seven seasons her enthusiasm and tenacity just never waned.

    Just a couple of faults
In the last few seasons they messed with Andy and April's characters too much.
They really hammed up Andy being a man child, and they really did the same with April and all the morbid stuff.

The characters were much better when Andy was more subtle and when April was a young female version of Ron.

And the bullying of Jerry\Larry\Terry did become tiresome in the latter seasons
I think it had to do with the departure of Chris and Anne Perkins, they needed to fill the void.

I'm currently watching this for the first time on Amazon prime! Didn't think much at first, but I read the reviews which basically said ignore the first series and stick with it.

I feel from midway through the second series is when it really took off and now I'm properly invested. At just 21 minutes an episode it's such an easy watch. Highlights so far are Ron getting shot, his 'pyramid of manliness' and April scheduling 93 meetings for one day because she didn't know March 31st existed :pac:

Should probably avoid this thread from now on for spoilers, but I hope the best is yet to come!

What's equally brilliant is Lesley suggesting that they find another 7 to round it up to the full 100.

It's worth it just for Mouserat's 'The Pit', if that is season 1.

They were "scare crow boat" I think for that gig..

Yeah, though, that whole series was quality..if anything I think nearly better than the jean ralphio kind of craic later.. we'll see..

Yeah, don't think I saw much past season 5, so there's a season or two that will be new this time.. nice..

Yeah I don't find Jean Ralphio funny in the slightest, his schtick is all very cringe imo.

I'm nearing the end of series 4 now. One of the things I like best about the show is that whilst it's first and foremost very funny, it's also got a lot of heart. Love Ron and Lesley's relationship, whilst she obviously annoys the hell out of him it's clear as day he also really cares about her. Love that he stood up for her when the government were considering sacking her.

Finished it off all last night (was a fair binge). Season 1 and 7 are so much weaker I find. 3,4 and 5 though are wall to wall gold I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Jean Ralphio was great i think and they wisely fed him to us in small doses. The sister was a step too far though, i just found her pointless and annoying.

Guess its all down to opinions, april was always my favourite character though inevitably it did stray a bit down the sentimental route by the end.

Just rewatching S1 for maybe the 5th time, as an introduction and scene setter, it does its job pretty well i think. I like that bit in E2 where one of the guys harrassing leslie at a public meeting shouts, "hey park lady, you suck" and next thing you see a beaming leslie addressing the camera, "you hear that? He called me park lady!" Maybe the first moment you could look at that show and see there was some real quality about it.

I can't remember when Craig (I think that was his name) entered the show, but I really couldn't see what he added apart from shouting at everyone in a very loud voice.

Favourite episode will probably always be the Snake Juice one. Drunk Lesley and Anne arguing and the montage of characters off their heads, Ron dancing and wearing some sort of fez never fails to make me laugh.

Ya me an all, perfectly fine introduction.

Started this sometime just after the summer on Prime having never watched before, will be going onto season 6 soon found season 2-4 to be fairly consistent. Season 5 was the first time the odd dud episode became noticeable to me like for instance the penultimate episode in it the A-story sees Leslie butter up council man Jamm at mini-golf, it played out the very same formula as the Bowling episode (which was fantastic) they just changed the setting, it was so much better the first time round!!
