You'd have to imagine that if the WSB subreddit were to be terminated, that'd be all she wrote for the GME run.

Oh, and Discord blaming the ban on offensive language is an absolute cop out.

Crazy times in the market, had two messages today from completely non stock market people asking about GameStop.

I'm ready for the chaos to end, day trading isn't my thing. At the same time great to see people making money, don't lose it on another gamble after please !!

Is it terminated or are people blocked? I used to be a member but never posted, can't access it now.

Did Melvin pay Reddit to take it down haha. Everyone sells at open and price falls so they can cover their shorts

I feel like this is gone beyond reddit now, like KOSS went up nearly 500% and I don't think it was mentioned much on WSB? Unless it was on discord?

It's chaos, people are buying anything shorted. Koss was mentioned on WSB though.

Blockbuster Liquidating corp was up 700% today. Confusion with BB blackberry symbol as well as people buying dead companies.

If WSB comes back I may actually buy this dip at opening. If the subreddit is gone then it's over .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,393 ✭✭✭dan786

    222$

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,356 ✭✭✭buyer95

    AMC also tanking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,393 ✭✭✭dan786

So Reddit and Discord shutdown making the stock plummet.

Recovered from 222 back to almost 300
We are experiencing technical difficulties based on unprecedented scale as a result of the newfound interest in WSB. We are unable to ensure Reddit's content policy and the WSB rules are enforceable without a technology platform that can support automation of this enforcement. WSB will be back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭Valhallapt

    BB tanking also

It would appear someone's created a new one. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wallstreetbetsnew/

Reminds me of the early days of Napster in 1999 and hearing about it on SkyNews.

It's definitely history making one way or the other. I don't care so much if a few hedge funds take a bath but hoping it's not a bath on the normal retail investors. If it's for small amounts that they can lose then fine but hopefully not serious amounts. Would prefer it be the hedge funds though personally.

One good thing that could come out of this is to reduce the ability to short a company so heavily. It really feels like kicking someone when they are down which is all too easy in a pandemic where businesses can't even open. That's the one positive is companies like AMC might have been benefiting to some extent, perhaps help them survive. I like to think that cinema's will continue to exist in the future. It would be bleak without them. Gamestop on the other hand is tricky to justify going forward unless they change the business. Internet connections have just become fast enough to download everything, so why have the middleman and with cloud gaming you don't even need to download the game.

I'll happily eat my hat if I'm wrong but NOK has too many shares available for a short squeeze to work I think.

It's already had a higher short interest than AMC.

How do Gamestop and AMC benefit, do they get a percentage even if people sell their shares and it crashes?

I actually think AMC shares will bounce back in the future anyway, whenever 'normal' resumes, could be like 5 years time to be fully back. I think people will want to go back to the simple times when we could go to the cinema.
I was looking at the 5 year graph though, and even before corona their shares were going down a lot year on year, I'm not sure why

I honestly don't know if they do benefit. If it was me I'd have been doing an offering of new shares and that way they would benefit from reduced borrowing.

AMC have benefited by selling 300m worth of stock today

It actually did save AMC: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/amc-movie-theater-avoid-bankruptcy/

I just don't get the ins and outs of it really
