Ah here Nitwit, you watch a movie with your own eyes...
Ah yeah, I completely agree. But sometimes there's match ups that are so mismatched that only a contrarian would vote against the film that's clearly the best, I was just illustrating that point ;)

rogerebert.com is a great site for movie reviews.
    https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/honey-i-blew-up-the-kid-1992

The majority of movie reviewers are film snobs who compare everything to what could win an Oscar.

The majority of Oscar Winners are ****.

Films, much like music, are subjective. Don't let other people decide for you what is or isn't good. Make up your own mind about things.

It's a cliché to say this now, but I do believe Mark Kermode is a good exception. I remember him championing High School Musical 3, for example.
The only thing reviews are good for, though, is suggesting films that might otherwise have slipped under the radar. If there's a film I want to see, no amount of bad reviews will stop me seeing it.

I do agree overall, I've lost track of the number of well reviewed films that left me cold recently

Absolute boll*cks and you know it. The Ducks and Honey I... movies were my favourites as a kid, watch them regularly and get the same joy out of them as I always did. I'd vote them above most anything else.

What's the point of having these tournaments at all, if that was everyone's attitude? ;)

I generally do like Mark Kemode. I often check out what he thought about a film, after I've seen it myself, to see if we're on the same page. He's one of the few that isn't a snob about films.

Ebert was good, and not snobby, just someone who really loved cinema, like Dilys Powell. It's interesting to read reviews of a film after watching it.

It is a good site for finding movies you would never have seen otherwise as well.
