    You are misinterpreting my post.

I'll be quite happy to simply get over the line.

    I'm taking zero for granted.

Making a statement is simply the dream scenario for me like many others nothing more.

I wasn't specifically referring to your post.
There are lots of examples, Kevin mcstay on the Mayo News podcast, a lot of the posters on the blog,a few on here.
I think some people are taking their eye off the ball and looking too far ahead, that's fatal especially this year as we've seen.
This Mayo team hasnt put in a 70 minute performance since Donegal 15 months ago.
I just hope whatever we do today is enough.

Must be some fierce competition in training. More changes to the subs again today.

    Indeed.

Surprised Mc Donagh and Walsh are out.

    Towey and Boland in.

Delighted to see James Carr in the 26.

Fionn must be injured,I would have hoped he would start or be brought on,I'd have him there ahead of ROD.Delighted to see Carr there and happy to see Boland back aswell. He lacks physicality but has great heart and always chips in with a point or two, usually from distance.
Horan must be sticking to his word of whoever is doing it in training gets picked.

I was near certain Colm Boyle would make the bench.

    Me too!
    Training must be ferocious.
As the game gets nearer im getting more confident, have a feeling we'll be going through the full range of emotions today, the usual life of a Mayo fan.

You're only prolonging the period in which Mayo won't win an all ireland. Another Mayo Dublin final will be spun by Croke Park to hide the fact that Mayo like other teams start these games with at least one arm tied behind their backs.
So winning today and losing a final will prolonge the period in which Mayo won't win an All Ireland, but losing today will not ?

What I think you are trying to say is that another All Ireland final loss will be the straw that broke the camel's back, am I correct ?

Personally speaking I've seen enough All Ireland losses at this stage that some effect me more than others.
In this year I don't think anyone pre COVID and even at the restart would have had Mayo at a SF, let alone as favorite.
So if they win today and go on to lose a final to Dublin it will seen by myself as a good outcome for a team in transition, with plenty to look forward to.
However if they lost to Tipp I'd be very annoyed, because it's a game Mayo should be winning, for many different reasons.

Now if you look at it from the players POV, they'll want to get to the final, they want to play at the top of the game, always, and well they should.

Agreed Fionn Mc Donagh must be injured.

Can you remind what Barry did against Tipp in 2018?

    Can't recall TBH.:)

Recall him going in full back against Donegal on one occasion.

I dont understand the narrative that Mayo have to make some kind of statement.
There's a good few lads playing senior for the first in Croke park against a seasoned and talented bunch who have soldiered together for Tipp and won silverware.
I'd be happy to fall over the line and start thinking about the next step then.
I don't think they have to make an statement but I'd enjoy it if they did.
I just love to see Mayo win and win well.

In 2015 my Kerry fan mother in law questioned how could I have enjoyed Mayo's Connacht final hammering of Sligo.

A few weeks later when she was "a whoopin and a hollirin" about Kerry's QF demolition of Kildare I asked her the very same question.

I think falling over the line, while good we win, is not setting us up for a tilt at Dublin. Ideally today we need a real strong performance with lots of energy and pace going forward. We need to beat Tipperary convincingly today. We fell over the line to a degree against Galway and I don't want to see that today - With Galway it was always going to be tight and I thought we were tired/sluggish. I need to see proper Mayo back today.
We have guys with serious pace so lets use it and stop the slow build up. I hope we see some fast ball delivered into the full forward line as well. The pitch should suit us and we usually up it when we hit croke park as well.

We do need an big improvement today and a proper win - this is so important for the next game if we are to have any chance.

Was it not tip christ I cant remember.
Its interesting that parsons is there in the subs
It will strengthen or midfield if he does come on if they push up on or kick outs

Best of luck to the lads today. We can't be there unfortunately but the nerves are just starting to kick in like always. Here's hoping we do the business.

I'm afraid Kerry people are just different. They have always seen it as their divine right to win but the Dubs are changing their minds now.

McDonagh is more or less out of favour, injury or not. Shame because he has that physicality we need in the half forward line and are sorely missing in the absence of Jason Doherty.

It was the game in 2016 that Barry played as a sweeper.

Mark Moran and Bryan Walsh got injured in training apparently. Not sure about McDonagh but he probably did too.

He can win aerial ball too and a directness of play similar to James Carr.

Perhaps he out of favour in a similar fashion to Eoin O Donoghue.

Obviously not convincing James Horan in training.

Shame if true that Boyler wont play a part today. Like others was sure he would have made the bench. Ah well, hopefully Horan knows what hes doing.

Mayo would be better off losing this today as at least there would be a bit of history made with a repeat of the 1920 final. The reality is this Mayo team won't beat that Dublin team and ye could do without another final heartbreak. Mayo have been denied a couple of All Irelands over the last decade due to the inequality in the system and the starker that point is laid bare to the big wigs the better it will be for Mayo and for football in general.

    Such sh!te

Do you know what will definitely prolong the period in which Mayo don’t win an all Ireland?

    Losing today

100% will prolong it until at least next year

    Moronic posting

There isn’t a county in Ireland who wouldn’t give to be where we are this morning

You can only hope that the manager has seen enough in training to make the correct call, because ultimately it will come back to haunt him.
Jim Gavin did it twice with Dublin, dropping Bernard Brogan for both the 2018 final v Tyrone & 2019 first AI final game v Kerry.
Personally speaking I wasn't too happy as Brogan is, Brogan, and I would have thought after Cluxton that his name would be next on the team sheet.
Gavin however, was his own man and did things his way, and in the end it worked out for him.

A big call for Horan to make and he should be supported in his team selection IMO.

Boyler hasn't being seen since the league before covid so something must be up

Played the challenge V Donegal I think

Horan obviously feels Plunkett, Brickendan are the way forward

Hard to come back from a serious injury like that at his age, same with Parsons. I’m very surprised either have gotten near county standard again. It shows what phenomenal athletes and work ethic the two boys have

Exactly. Someone said similar to me yesterday. I just said to them that we're never going to win an All Ireland if we don't reach the final. There's always hope.
