You know what those boys west of the Shannon are like S, seen a fella run a sub 3 marathon recently with his head on upside down!!!!!

If I had hair on my head I'd be pulling it out in rage right now after that low blow!

Some worthy contenders there for sure. As no one has linked to mine, here’s the beginning of it, just to level the playing field. ;)

    Murph_D’s DVM

Always a good idea to provide a link to any nominations - saves lazy people like me having to look them up. :pac:

Hey Barry, I’m a bit confused. Are you looking for nominations by Dec 20 or actual votes? Traditionally those were separate stages, narrowing down the potential options for everyone to vote on. Your thread, your rules of course.

I appreciate the above Race Report comments. My own favourite this year was Chivito’s National Masters effort. Not a poster I always see eye to eye with but credit where it’s due - a compelling account of the white heat of the track, and the agony of coming away with the wrong result, something we can all identify with.

Thanks for reminding me of that moment. :) The bruising and soreness on the hip lasted about a month and a half!

Race of the Year, has to be National Senior Track and Field Championships. It won't win this, but the amount of effort put in by the organisers to somehow make the event happen under absolutely ridiculous circumstances, commands respect. They divided the event into 9 sessions over 4 days, over 2 weekends, with each session falling below the 200 outdoor limit. The logistics involved must have been an absolute nightmare to manage, and it would have been so much easier to just bin it. Athletics Ireland gets a lot of criticism, often quite fairly, but they played a blinder here, ensuring 147 years of history were protected, and we proudly still have the longest unbroken streak of all National Championships in the world. Robinson V Tobin was the icing on the cake.

The truth is the truth, one doesn't fabricate it. Have you been known to gild the lily, to fabricate a fanciful tale? Most definitely the answer to that is not never ever ;)

Pitched one in for you already actually ;)

to be fair, maintaining a log in a running forum as you did with so little running in it at times is pretty noteworthy achievement in itself!

Some posts I recall as finding very informative during the year (although clear bias as I started training by HR and also did some mile specific training):

    Murph_D's post on HR training
    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=112167026&postcount=8

Sacksian on mile / shorter distance training
    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=114560952&postcount=920

Hannibal_Smith on the 5k TT which I think captured what that particular boards event was good for
    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=113266002&postcount=742

And to highlight another woman as so far there hasn't been too many, ariana is always very quick to help out with questions in the RRQ thread and elsewhere, so a definite contender for Poster of the Year in my book.

Still hanging on to my log of the year achievement... An award for being a much more consistent and well rounded contributor. Not just a "flash in the pan".

I think the series of A/R/Tist in the spotlight threads over the summer deserve a mention here - ReeReeG's one was a particular standout for me.

Good call out A. I think part of the problem here is that 2020 is the looooooooongest year ever and some of those threads feel like they were in fact last year... or the year before....

Good reminder of a Comeback Runner on the latest posts of the 1000 mile challenge thread..

Oh, she was away alright. I've seen her at the best and worst of times and I'm quite amazed at the mileage she managed to put in. Definitely getting my vote.

These are the votes I'm sending to the jury. Changed my mind on a couple after seeing some recommendations and other posts that jogged my ailing memory!

    1. Poster of the Year

OONegative. The heart and soul of the forum.

    2. Log of the Year

This was a close one between Laineyfrecks and ReeReeG but I'm going for ReeReeG.

    3. Thread of the Year

Running, Corona Virus and Social Distancing - a lot of toxic stuff in there (quite literally) but with nearly 1,300 posts and 123,000+ views it has to be thread of the year.

    4. Newcomer of the Year

Dubh Geannain if he’s eligible. It was great to follow his mile progression. Otherwise don’t know.

    5. Most Improved Runner of the Year

Laineyfrecks. Excelling at everything from the mile to HM. Exemplary.

    6. Race Report of the Year(Real or Virtual)

    Chivito’s National Masters

    7. Race of the Year(Real or Virtual)

Boards 1 mile TT - just shades 5k version with more participants and because it was a bit different.

    8. Post of the Year

Duanington on the late Pat Hooper

    9. Comeback Runner of the Year

    aquinn's renaissance

    10. Performance of the Year

Ferris B’s sub-3 virtual Dublin Marathon.

No race report but he wrote about it here. At age 53, Ferris blew away the competition with what was the most impressive virtual performance of the year for me.

Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once - Michelle Dubois of ‘Allo Allo fame.

I opened this thread 12 days ago to generate some conversation, chat, banter call it what you want to try and reflect on this crazy year we all have had from a running perspective and to acknowledge the people that stood out in your eyes.

I have had one vote a day in that time, a sad reflection on the way this forum has gone. I’m not pointing the finger at anyone but in that 12 days loads of regulars have posted and passed through this forum and no votes or opinions from same. We all have opinions on the categories I have posted, share them here or via PM to me. It’s everyone’s forum guys, up to ye to keep the place going.

I’ll leave it at that, I won’t be bumping or reminding people from here on in. At a certain point it just gets tedious.
