New Apple Silicon Macbooks

Anyone pull the trigger on one of these new MacBooks? Been seeing reviews on YouTube and it’s got me tempted. Apparently rivals the processing power of the old Intel Core i7-i9 MacBooks but with next to no heat generation and fan noise due to lower wattage.

The old Intel-based programs run well with Rosetta and at €1100-€1300 looks like an appealing machine.

benchmark scores seem very impressive as is battery life due to power efficiency.

but if you use a lot of non-native apps (non Apple) and can wait then maybe wait a few months until more are running non-emulated.

this is a big deal allright. I'll bite when the 14.1 mini led macbook pro come out , hopefully sometime next year

Lonnng time PC guy here (since windows 3.1) but I am making the switch. Just can't decide between a 16GB air or a 8GB pro.

this will explain a bit why these M1 chips are so fast and why 8gb ram is more than enough for the vast majority of us and wouldn't be on intel chips

the pro will have better battery life and can run a bit hotter due to having fans but you'll be unlikely to be doing anything to sweat the laptop. I agree with ED E , the macbook pro isn't worth the extra bobs , they're for all intents and purposes, the same machine (imho).

Depends on use case, ability to actively cool the processor will benefit certain tasks more than the extra RAM. The prices are similar so it's a tough call.

The "active cooling solution" (i.e. fan that has always been there) in the MacBook Pro 13 allows the cpu to sustain higher performance for longer. Few hundred plus for the auld fan now please

Pro also has a 25% brighter screen.

Unless you are running sustained loads a lot, and in very bright environments a lot. I'd prefer the 16GB. Depends what you are using it for of course.

Game changing chip.

I couldn't live with a 13" as my only laptop though. I find 14" too small.

Yes, 16Gb version.
Look forward to trying Resolve 17 on it against my current 15" i7 2019 one.
Only downside for me is the number of ports where I would use up to 3 peripherals at times.
