I do. Iv been reading how 538 predicted biden as heavy favourite for months. That didn't work out. Just like their senate predictions.

"We ran the election 10,000 times "

Time for 538 to call it a day

    :D

You're in shock. Not surprising. I told you all the polls were wrong but you would listen. Like last time rassamus were the only polling company right.

You didn't tell me anything

I'm not in shock - I'm making an observation. Nothing shocks me after 2016, Brexit ref etc.

And polls are also bull**** in my book so we agree on that.

538 need to close up shop. Miles off reality again

538 tout themselves as compete experts but as you say this is the second election in a row they’ve got completely wrong.

They were saying it’s 90% sure that Biden would win....?!

I’m just glad I didn’t put any bets on based on 538s analysis.

How did I not get my way? I got you to admit you do not care about the democratic process, you just want your guy to come out on top - regardless of him cheating to get there.

The election is not over yet as all votes have not been counted

Can someone explain, in layman terms for the dumb blonde posting (me, I'm not dumb, just using a stereotype) why the election is not won by votes.
Theres 5 million votes. One person gets 251 million votes, the other gets 249 million votes, then whoever has the most votes win.
Why do they do it different states? And not the whole Country

CNN are starting to admit it's looking bad for Biden.

    CNN’s
    @JohnKingCNN
just admitted that Joe Biden needs to win 75% of the remaining votes to overtake President Trump in Pennsylvania.

Even went as far as saying “that’s a steep hill.”

The numbers in Georgia are looking interesting. Trump had a sizable lead of 300k there about 3 hours ago. It's now down to 100k with a significant number still to count mainly from Atlanta.

Question about the Electoral College - do all states give all their electoral votes to whoever won the popular vote? Or do any of them allocate differently?

Nebraska and Maine allocate them based on congressional district.

Definitely. Too early too call yet. This is the state of things based on races called/toss-ups according to associated press.

All of them work like that except Nebraska and Maine which allocate them based on sub districts within the state

But yep, popular vote within the state get all the votes.

    ....

EDIT: Its ok, someone answered my question below.

It should be the popular vote though. It doesn't matter that there is 20,000 (or however low the population is) in one state and 10 million in another. I just dont understand that. Count it all as votes.

Was it Georgia that they said had a load of "postal" ballots handed in in person today? Surely they swing even, if not more Trump.

Because heavily populated areas like Texas and new york would decide every election. People living in rural states wouldn't get a say.

Maybe I'm (most likely) stupid, but why do reporters say that in some areas they have 'shut down counting now because its clear Trump has won'?

If Trump is ahead by 6,000 votes and there are only 5,000 left to count. Why bother?

Its effectively to stop bullying by larger population centres/states. It forces the candidates to fight for votes in the smaller states, as those states have slightly more electoral college votes proportionally to population than the bigger states.
It keeps the concept that this is a country of united states rather than just one block of people.

That's the reasoning, I'm not defending it or supporting it.

Different states have more votes that go towards the 270 electoral college votes that are needed to be elected.
    CA has 55
    NC has 15

It doesn’t get divided on population.

    Question...

Everyone seems to be counting that Pennsylvania will go to Biden because of the 2.2m mail ballots.

But from what I read here overnight, the breakdown of those votes by registration is approx:
    1.2m - Dem
    600k - Rep
    400k - Ind

Well first of all, Trump leads by 675k. If all the registered Dems vote as expected, they lead by 525k. But then the 600k Rep votes if they back their man takes them back into the lead. It falls to the 400k independent votes.

And the elephant in the room is Biden's views on fracking. Will that sway the independent vote towards Trump? Could it even swing some of the Dem registered voters against Joe?

Whichever bookie decides the payout is less than what the coverage they get is worth

Better than expected then, I thought this would be fairly one way listening to the news last night.

There was loads of optimism about the colossal early turnout. More early votes were cast in Texas than in all of 2016, and they tended to be by registered democrats and independents more so than republicans.
