A lot of 20 somethings nowadays have a notion of entitlement that is nothing short of arrogant. Its quite unfortunate really as they just have so much coming at them by social media that they can't help but wanting what they see other folks having. When they don't get what they want they just get angry and decide that no one else will have it either. The irony has been some of them practice mindfulness without realising it comes in to play with their sense of entitlements. If they could find content within their own lives and planned to do better for themselves they would get to where they want. Kicking cans and protesting gets non of this.

See JM that is one problem there , the days of the bedsit are gone and the flat that may not have been the best but was livable is also gone . Bedsits served a purpose in and around hospitals , colleges etc. They were an affordable place to live while still having money left to socialize and maybe save a few bob. For the past 8 years or so i have been listening to SF and all these clowns like PBP slamming these places as not fit too live - granted some were not but the vast majority where - a shared house where everyone had there own room and shared a kitchen and bathroom but the laws that these clowns campaigned for have now worked against this generation . Ok you all can have your own flat with a kitchen and bathroom but it will cost you an extra 200 euro a week or the student accommodation now being built around the city with gyms and cinemas - it all costs more so its a vicious circle . You have a hybrid now of with co - living being built and now have the usual suspects up in arms over it . You cant have it both ways im afraid .

No it was in its infancy here in Ireland when I was renting.
When I get a second property, I think I will definitely look at Air B&B or some sort of short term corporate letting for it. No way I would want to risk having a long term tenant in it.

absolutely, they are delusional morons! maybe well intentioned, but absolute morons. If we discover middle east levels of oil or had them, it might be an idea! but taking an affordable option of the table, when peoples only budget was that option, is idiocy. It reduced supply, some people just dont want to share with others, but dont have the budget for or dont want to give up socialising etc at the cost of having their own place...

The Sinn Fein mentality is that whatever the hard-working has, we should have it for free.

Quite a lot of them were not livable in. I remember looking at a flat once that had newspapers as a floor covering and it stank. Two of my cousins were in a flat when they were in college and you would be afraid to touch anything in it and the floor was just concrete with no heating. They survived it because it was just for when they were in college, ate in college and went home every weekend with their washing.

In some of the flats I lived in during the 80s around Donnybrook, Ballsbridge, Ranelagh, Rathmines, you ended up sharing a room with one or two others. You were lucking if you had heating and if you had, it was controlled by the landlord.

I work 60 plus hours a week,most weeks,between work,nixers,and farm.....i cant afford to rent in my area (well i could so long as i didnt need to but food/heating),nor afford an extra commute in/out of here.....i pay significant amount of my wages at the higher bracket

Im.listed as lazy for not voting ffg.....jokeshop of a country and those running it

.....i worked abroad,2-3 jobs at times to get started,made a go and sucess of life there,only to.come home,to help elderly relatives on farms etc and be called lazy

You should have came over to the northside.:D Cant speak for the 80's because i was never in any of them back then but through the 90's the majority were decent places to live- like in all walks of life you will get people that take the piss and a few landloards where like that but instead of dealing with them they all got tared with the one brush and for a long time where projected as these hate figures who ran slums which was untrue.A lot of very decent people who banked on them houses being their pensions just sold up as it became impossible to be a landlord.

I think there is an element of that and that was likely their core vote before the particular surge the last election, but I think you now have a large amount of non freeloaders, who are screwed by the housing crisis and know FFG wont do anything about it...

Not sure what the success you're referring to is, this is a proposal by SF not a policy already implemented
