Seeking Advice Regarding My First Gaming Build Please

    Hi Everyone!

A few months back my friend gifted me his old gaming PC, but sadly its coming to its end. Therefore, I'm considering a new build!

I just want to clarify that I have some existing PC parts available to me. But I'm new to Builds, so I do apologise if some of the terminology is wrong or of I leave out some crucial information.

I've read another users post, so I've copied the questions included & answered them for myself. I'm looking for a PC which will last me a few years, and of course if I've to upgrade something in 2 years time (EG - Better graphics card) then I don't mind doing that. Also, I'm aware that AMD recently announced new CPU's, so I have that in mind.

    What is your budget?
€800 Max for the parts I need.

What will be the main purpose of the computer?
Gaming. I'm happy with 1080p. Also working from home, but it's nothing major.

    Current Games:
CS:GO, Football Manager 2020, South Park (Stick of Truth, Fallout: New Vegas).

    Planned Games:
Crysis, Battlefield, Valorent, Fallout 4, GTA V, Skyrim, newer games such as COD & Cyberpunk. Multiplayer games.

Game Types: FPS, Indie Games, I'm open to anything, really.

*I don't mind lowering settings on graphical intensive games as long as they'll work*

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?
No. I'm aware how to install it on A Flash Drive & put it on the Boot Drive on the New computer.

Can you use any parts from an old computer?
    Yes. I have the following:
    - Corsair Liquid Cooler (H80i).
    - 1TB SeaGate HDD.
    - 512GB Crucial SSD.
    - An ATX Tower.
    - SuperFlower Golden Green 80+ Gold 650W PSU.
    - 2TB external HDD.
    - Bluetooth USB, WiFi USB, Mouse, Keyboard.

    Do you need a monitor?
    No. I have a HP E243i 1920 x1080 60Hz monitor & I'm happy to wear earphones. (there's no built in sound.)

Are you willing to try overclocking?
Not right away, but I'm open to the possibility in the future? But not from the get-go perhaps. (Sorry if this isn't clear, I've never physically done it)

    When are you purchasing?
In or around Black Friday. Maybe sooner.

If you need help building it, where are you based?
I'm fine constructing myself, and I'm based in North Dublin.

I've been looking at an AMD Ryzen 3600x, Tomahawk Motherboard, 16GB RAM. (See Attached) & an XFX Radeon 5600xt GPU as potential components.

I won't be using it for streaming. Its main focus is gaming. I'll also be coding (re-learning) & working from home (essentially a mailbox).

I've attached an image of what I put together on PCPartPicker.co.uk, please let me know if it's overkill, or not good enough & any other recommendations!

Many thanks, and feel free to ask any questions!

I'd wait a few weeks until the new AMD CPU's and GPU's are on the market.

    No need to wait IMHO

Ryzen 3600 will play anything at 1080p 60Hz no bother.
    Decent mobo, 16Gb fast DDR4.
RTX 2060 Super for grunt & some ray-tracing.
Arctic fans to replace the Corsair's - quieter & more effective at airflow.

Unless you are in an incredible rush I would wait for the 5600X to reach the shelves and build round that CPU with perhaps the low end Big Navi Card, the RX 6800. That said @K.O.Kiki's build is good, but if not in a rush as I say waiting is probably better!

I am not sure I would agree on that budget. End of the day they are both 6/12 processors and the 5600X is £100+ more expensive.

On a normal 1080P monitor, the money would be better spent elsewhere.

The 5600X is also the fastest single-threaded CPU out there according to recent testing, and a lot of games don't optimise multi-threading very well. It is £100 more expensive but a worthwhile investment over the 3600 imho. It's a great CPU to structure a new build around, especially if you go with a new Big Navi GPU and can avail of Smart Access Memory, we'll have to await for the embargo on performance numbers to be lifted to see what it does, and how that works.

Again, not sure I fully agree.

The new consoles are built around 8/16 CPU's, that is inevitably the way games are going.

There will be differences between the 3600 and 5600X, but nothing so titanic that the 5600X will still sail along while the 3600 flounders.

At 1080P 60hz, the difference between the 5600X and 3600 is not really going to be a factor.

Personally I believe the 5600X makes sense for semi-regular builders/upgraders, but for people who just want a PC to last, the 3700X actually makes more sense at the same price.

2 more cores, 4 more threads. It will make a big difference as we get into the full swing of games being built with PS5/Xbox S-X in mind a few years down the road particularly.

The IPC gap between 5600X and 3600....less so.

High IPC and clock speeds are only needed for very high frame rates. The 3600 seems to be good enough for 144hz in most cases.

The 5600/5700 are more suited to monitors above 144hz.
