The proper action was taken here. It's not acceptable to the rest of the party so they resigned.

Not sure what else is required only a proper inquiry into why it happened and why only 70 have repaid the money.

According to the statement it is in respect of her 'former Westminster office', the other two were paid in to constituency accounts.

Three resignations for making off with €30,000 and not paying it back -preceded by a glorious funeral for the man who stole £26 million which was never given back. Odd.

I don't think it is as simple and straightforward as you make out.

We have a situation where a member of the Oireachtas was receiving payments from a foreign government into a bank account outside of this jurisdiction. I can't imagine the bile that would pour forth on these threads if that was Leo or Roderic.

It is then compounded by her resigning her seat so that she escapes being questioned in the Seanad on the issue. Not a good look at all.

It is then further compounded by the party of which she is a member only the previous week asserting that it operates on a 26-county, six-county partitionist basis when it comes to finances, but not in the case of the dear Senator, it seems? Not looking better, is it?

At the very least Mary-Lou needs to come into the Dail and give a full explanation and take questions on the issue.

All we need to clear it up is for Mary-Lou to come into the Dail, give a full transparent statements and answer any questions into funding for Sinn Fein so that we can all be happy that everything is sweet and light in that regard. I mean, you would ask it of Leo, wouldn't you?

I would ask it of any party leader. And history shows that we would get excuses/obfuscation/denial etc until the truth had to be hounded out of them.
Contrast to this...issue arises/issues fixed and those responsible resign and party leader immediately gives a full apology and accepts the responsibility.
Textbook leadership in my book.

I think I have already said it was wrong.

That doesn't mean you can lie about it. Nobody 'made off' with the money if it was paid back.

Meanwhile approx 390 others have still to pay it back.

I would have said there wasn't a leg to stand in in the Maria Bailey case or Golfgate or even Frances Fitz...but look what happened there. Tears and grinding of teeth to get to the inevitable.
