Just wondering are there other people out there as fascinated by bodybuilders as me. The incredible bodies, the lifestyle it takes to achieve it. I find it massively attractive, even the really huge freaks.

    Not for everyone I’m sure.

Each to their own, but I tend to find it fairly unattractive looking. There’s a point where it goes from nicely bulked to slightly freak show.

To me it’s more fascinating in a documentary making kind of way than attractive or something I’d want to emulate.

I don't find it attractive but I admire them for their work and achievements.

Does certain parts not shrink due to steroid use?

Sleep, eat, steroids, workout, repeat x 6 days a week. It takes dedication no doubt.

I’m sure there are people who can say yes or no to that. Would still find it hugely attractive :)

The testicles for the period you're on them but not the Penis as is often joked about when people talk about bodybuilders.

    70s era was the peak

If someone is injecting testosterone their testicles stop producing it. One would need to go on a course of Nolvadex. Plus with the test so high they'd need to be on estrogen inhibitors as it will naturally rise as a result of the sky high test. Resulting in breast like growths.

When it starts going into steroid use, then it gets weird!

There’s definitely an optimal in the gym and then ... ok you’ve probably gone a bit too far there! It applies to both male and female body builders.

You think they achieve it by exercise regime, diet and discipline alone...... get outta it!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 651 ✭✭✭440Hertz

It probably takes a lot of discipline to stick to the supplement schedule ...

Except for a few journalists and professional athletes, the whole country was eating out of her hand and ignoring the 5 or 8 year ban on Marcus deBrun

The professional ones take it too far, injecting steroids and other stuff to make them look like they've been blown up with a pump!

Giant muscles and veins a popping, body fat in single figures all looks amazing, but there can be consequences later in life .... like death.

I know what you’re getting at, but by definition death is a consequence for everyone later in their life.

Ha ha, you know what I mean

    Premature death.

I don't find bulked up guys particularly attractive, to me it points towards excessive narcissism which is not a quality that grabs me.
I see a lot of younger guys who seem to concentrate on their pecs, biceps and a six pack but ignore below the waist and have no backsides and skinny little chicken legs and look top heavy. Saw a friend's son during the summer with massive biceps but they were completely shapeless and just reminded me of raw sausages that got squashed in transit.

It is sad to see the girlfriends of the bodybuilders in the gyms with them.
The bodybuilders may be able to maintain their body for years to come but gravity will take its toll on the girlfriends no matter how hard they work out and they are within the vanity bubble of these men and will be cast aside once they start undermining the self-image of these men due to their failing looks.
I figure their only possible strategy is to overfeed their men if they can so that they too lose their lean bodies.
A portion of them may not be vain but there are definitely very vain men among them with specific fashionable haircuts, clothes that flatter their figure and cars that aren't a conventional boring hatchback or saloon.

These are the thoughts that cross my mind between sets in the fitness studio.

I thought it was wierd (still do to be fair) but a guy I used to work with is a competitive bodybuilder and he was a sound chap. I follow his Instagram about bodybuilding and find it intriguing. It's a true lifestyle choice, you can't do it half arsed. If you enjoy, do it.

One thing I learned from it is that a lot, if not most competitive bodybuilders get propositioned with sex for money.

The whole leg thing is weird. My daughter used to say years ago...he forgot leg day at the gym. But even fellows who are not body builders but just have big arms can have these really skinny legs. I think it might be because those bars you can put up in a doorway and do a few pull ups every time you walk past are easy to manage, but staying in serious squats or doing lunges is boring and hard on the knees.

As a woman, a man with a body like that is one of my biggest turn offs.

The sheer bulk of it. I'm 5ft nothing and size 10. He could easily break me...No thanks

The level of time & commitment (or steroids) required. Is there time for much else if he's living in the gym?

The vanity & obsession that goes with it ...don't need to be spending time with someone that spends more time on their appearance than I do.

Tbf, a person with that sort of body probably wouldn't be attracted to me either as while I have a good figure it probably could be more toned. Give me an average guy, even with a slight dad not and I'm much more impressed.

I find the dedication fascinating. The sacrifices they make is unbelievable.

The chicken legs is what people call the nightclub body. Whats on top is all that matters. They must work chest shoulders and arms every day lol

It takes work to train legs which is why many "skip leg day"

The late Australian writer Clive James described Arnold Schwarzenegger as looking like: 'A brown condom full of walnuts’.
