Fair enough. I didn't hear much ranting though...feminist or otherwise.

Des was, basically, dreadful. All over the place.

Was he at the side of a pitch.

Pity Gabrielle isn't on the same show.

    Excellent contribution today

Will she asked back on in the future? , level headed facts and clear answers and called out Dan O' Brien and Michael McNamara - ' where's your proof ' ouch

I hope so. I usually respect Dan O'Brien but she well and truly showed him up today...and in a calm, fact based way.

Michael McNamara is on The Week In Politics now.

    He gets around.

I don't want to divert the thread, but Aine Lawlor is putting a bit of manners on him.

McNamara sadly doesn’t give a damn and simply is using this crisis as a way to boost his profile.

He lost his seat previously and he is determined never to repeat that again

And didn't O'Connor say they were going to fact check McNamaras claims regarding suicides? Wonder will he get back to us or was it just blather to shut down the debate.

Dan O’Brien shouldn’t really be allowed near a mic for a while after that performance this morning. And yet, he wasn’t even the worst contributor on that segment.

Des explained the NBA bubble about as badly as only Alan Quinlan could. It was a very strange segment with Des going a million miles out of his way to avoid criticising the GAA.

Jaysus Cahill is on with the usual staccato delivery ..... why is he stopping and starting.

Was there not a pitch invasion in Dungannon.

The man of the people ..... protecting the gigs.

    He always sounds half cut.

Are you referring to Stefanie Preissner? It was Gabrielle Colleran who said that.

I thought Colleran was excellent today...lots of level headed facts and clear answers...apart from the weird "mostly men" comment.

she countered Dan o Briens first comments by referencing Dr Anthony Staines , she deferred to a guy who makes samuel mc conkey appear moderate

She’s been on top of her “game” regarding Covid. Worth checking out her podcast or “following” her on Instagram.

Jaysus don't say that on this Radio Boards. .your heading for a red card by whoever dishes them out... probably John Delaney

Even if you think Staines is not a reliable or credible source...and fair enough that may be open to debate...at least she supports her stance with some kind of supporting comment/evidence. The point about Dan O'Brien (on this particular issue) is that he offers absolutely nothing to back up what he keeps saying about not accepting the ICU capacity issue...nothing.

Maybe he has offered some evidence to support his view on this, but I've never heard it. If someone can point me to where he has, that would be great.

DOB makes the point that we are battling the very same pandemic as the rest of the EU yet have taken a significantly more draconian approach in terms of restrictions

why must we be so different in how we react ?

I think that's probably because of the fairly important issue of our ICU capacity.

Anyway, you're missing my point. I'm open to DOB's broader viewpoint on our approach to Covid-19, but I'm addressing his complete failure to explain why he rejects the specific issue of ICU capacity.

Gabrielle was good generally but she was wrong in relation to the National Self-Harm Registry (the "proof" that she sought).

If you listen to that particular section, she made an outlandish accusation (that he was just making things up) immediately before her cries for proof. The reality is that it's pretty incredible that she wasn't aware of the suspension of the registry.

such is a certain cohort of medics sense of infallibility , they instinctively react this way to anyone who dares stray from their approved doctrine

    Nice one Mad Max,

Forgot to add earlier that the context was interesting also in that what culminated in her demand for proof, etc. was her claim, which she also had made earlier in the show, that NPHET was basing its decisions on all relevant considerations, including mental health implications.

McNamara reasonably pointed out that this was nonsense if the relevant data capture had been suspended.

It was amusing to listed to the way that McNamara filleted her as she had filleted O'Brien - great gas.

All this missed by some posters earlier?

How was Gabrielle wrong? McNamara referenced an article in the Irish Times which says they (National self harm registry ) doesn't have real time data and that hinders reporting - McNamara said that 'we had stopped recording suicides ' which is simply not true.

And the article he referenced is from early June. Although data collection appears to have been temporarily suspended back during the early lockdown, Simon Bracken from the Irish Times has since confirmed that the collection of data has long since resumed. But maybe a TD making definitive claims about something so potentially controversial has more informed, up-to-date knowledge...oh hang on, it's Michael McNamara.

This is Simon Bracken calling out Peadar Toibin doing something similar.

He preached about Parish Pump Politics for years before he became a TD, as soon as he got elected he was worst than of any of them.
Glad the people seen through him in the last election.
