Sending Browne up after his misses in the game was a **** call, it’s always how it falls with a player like that. I called it as he stepped up

    Maddening.

Scotland and ni both win on pens

    Happy for them both

Disappointing, we had enough chances to win it and we got better as it went on. Happy that there’s enough signs there for a promising World Cup campaign.

Played well overall but where Browne put his peno is criminal, exactly where a keeper wants it. If that's where you're thinking of putting your peno keep your hand down.

Low and hard, down the middle or high are now the optimal places to put it. None of this side foot a yard either side of the keeper

Cannot understand that. Unless he was the 5th up.

Very bold assumption to think we would make it to 5!!!!

Played excellent during that game . Looked very good in possession. Massive improvement from the last two games.

Hopefully Connelly or Idah can start providing goals going forward.

Jack Byrne needs a move to England in January to really have a chance of getting into this side.

In fairness theres exciting times ahead for this group.

I'd say he was bought on the basis of being one of the best wing backs in the Premier league over the last two seasons. Great value.

That said, hes had two poor games and doesn't look brilliant in a back four versus the back 5 at Wolves

He didnt have a shocker either. One mistake which most player will make in a game.

He is being played out of position and thats the truth of it.

Failed to take great chances during the game and that cost us.

Enough chances to win in regulation time. Same old story though- can't finish off moves to save our lives.

Couple of Slovaks pens were lucky though- thought Randolph could have done better with the penultimate one.

Doubt he was sent, whoever wanted to take them took them. Its not as if he missed an open goal in fairness

Unlucky lads. We deserved to go through. Played very well. So refreshing to see us pass the ball around. Haven’t seen us do that since November 2009.

What's new. They're very successful at failing.

In fairness Slovakia had enough chances to win comfortable also, two bad teams.

As seen in Spain 2002 poor penalties decided it Browne stubbornly placing in spite of where the keeper was moving and Doherty wrecklessly smashing it

Like Spain good effort but so called small details on penalties kill you at this level

Nah penos can be practiced, put some power behind it at least

We played well after about the hour mark. Before that we were disappointing and made them look better than they were. We shouldn't be surprised about playing well against a team that had lost three of their best players going into the game, and who were without the advantage of their home fans.

Fact is we never had a better chance to qualify and we didn't take it. Absolutely gutted.

Positional sense lets him down and I'm not just talking about defensively (he was actually okay defensively tonight). Makes the wrong runs half the time and then doesn't reposition to receive the ball quick enough if the ball isn't played into his run.

Hourihane had his best game in an Irish shirt, which may say more about how our midfield has operated generally over the past few years than anything else, McGoldrick was good, Hendrick was good, Stevens was good. Just no finish on our attacks.

    Naw sorry.
We had the better chances should have won that.
    Really encouraging performance.

Unlucky Ireland. Loads of positives though. If we develop an end product we'll be formidable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,015 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Optimistic for the future. We actually looked like a cohesive football team tonight. So refreshing after the last 3 regimes! Onwards and upwards lads!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,022 ✭✭✭✭pgj2015

We played ok in the end, good to see them stringing a good few passes together. Kenny obviously doesn't rate Jack Byrne.

Tragic that we wont be in the euros when there will be games played in Dublin.

Low and hard like a terrier’s mickey is the way to take penalties.
