my speedo is 4% out so I set to 124 or 6 (it won't do 125 for some reason...)

    (104 in a 100 and 82 in an 80)

10% tolerance is not official, depends on the Officer's discretion I think.

Very true, passed a garda a few weeks with the cc set on 85 mph (not sure what the real speed is), he was tucked away in one of the gateways on the M7, only spotted last minute eek! Gave me the slow down gesture, just guessing but pretty confident much more and I'd have had lights in the mirror - nice garda that, really appreciated that.

going a few extra kmh isn't going to hurt. Road awareness is non existent on roads.
If i was overtaking you in the overtaking lane with CC on, but seen we were both approaching a lorry driving on left lane, i would speed up just a bit to hurry the overtaking process and so you would not have to break and slow down, especially if busy as breaking can have a chain reaction further back

There's a big difference between a potential issue ahead and an impatient driver behind.

123 km/h, which is 120 km/h on GPS for my car.

85mph or 136k depending on which car.

    The GPS will show 130k

Will often go a little faster, anyone that does lots of motorway driving will know the usual spots that your speed will be checked, and always be aware at on/off ramps.

I prefer never having to watch for anything and never set it to too much more than the GPS limit although that varies depending on the roads, usually 51 on a 50; 61 on a 60, 81 on an 80; 113 on a 100 on the M50 and 103 on other 100 roads; and 125 in a 120. Car is pretty accurate only off 1-3 kmh up to 100KM/h.

Limit +~10% and stick to 60 and 50kmh limits.

I do a combination of 126kmh on cruise and playing the offside trap when someone obliges. Knowing the general configuration of unmarked cars also helps.

Don't have cruise control :O I'll tip away around 130 normally, whcih is 126 GPS in my car. Generally pass most traffic at that. Depends where I'm going too. If it's a long spin I'll sit at 140 for long periods on the Speedo, slow at certain trap areas. Burns some fuel too so I might grow up soon.

I think if I had cruise control I'd be more inclined to just do the 130. Having to press the accelerator all the time goives temptation

Lol based on this thread I think there is a correlation between how late you stay up on boards and how fast you set your CC on the notorway

Using a BMW rental in Germany, I set it at 200. The car had automatic distance maintenance sensors. Great fun, I could be in nearside lane traveling at 100, (because of some holdup) with an appropriate gap to the vehicle in front, then swing into outside lane and she'd be off , up to the 200 kmh. Bit of fun. Didn't figure out how to use the auto parking though!

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

    They’re probably late for work.

    110KM/H

Quieter, more relaxed and uses (in my case) significantly less fuel.

110 Km per hour, still get there almost as quickly as all the lunatics doing 140 +

I set cruise to 10kph over the posted limit, which is generally 7-8kph in 'real speed' on my car.

But I do a lot of driving, long days, so it adds up and is worth my time. If I was just floating about and not working, then a few minutes here or there wouldn't really make any difference to me and I'd be more inclined to set my cruise control so my actual speed is the limit.

Doing 140kph on a motorway is far from lunacy.

Theres 30mins difference in travel time between me going 110kph and 140kph to Dublin from Cork, thats an hour if you are doing a day trip.

Nothing wrong with going 110kph and nothing wrong with going 140kph either.

I would be more interested in what lane people stay in when they set these 140km cruise controls because its as annoying as hell trying to get these lads to move in when you come up behind them doing a faster speed and they are sat in the overtaking lane thinking they are driving a starship.

If I'm in the A6 normally set it to 130 or maybe 140 but if I'm in the corolla at 130 the poor thing is screaming so tip away at 90

Skoda Superb 126 on motorway. Confirmed as 120 on GPS. Pretty much anything I have driven in VAG group is the same. Have cruised past camera vans on motorway (my pet hate) without bothering to come off that speed and didn’t get a ticket.

I just wait till the Speedo needle goes around to the end.
Don't know what speed that is as my vision is not the best.😄

This is very true.. all this "its only 5/10 minutes in the difference" stuff ignores the point that at peak hours, 10 minutes can be the difference between getting there or sitting another 30 minutes in traffic, or a significant difference in a long distance trip

As for the "I'm saving fuel" brigade.. if you're constantly being overtaken by other traffic and especially buses and trucks, you shouldn't be on a motorway where you're effectively a rolling roadblock.

"So leave earlier then" - no, how about you drive at the limit when there's no reason not to or at the very least don't hold up others who can/will.

Inside for by far the most part, generally quiet so no need to dodge in and out or stay in the overtaking lane, you’d look like a duck in an empty motorway.

Yep on a motorway like the M8 you can sit in the inside lane and not see another car (on either side) for 5/10 minutes sometimes it's that quiet in parts

The M7 however is a different story. On that one Most can't even do the 120 it seems so I just overtake the lot of them rather than weaving in and out, and pull in then if a clear stretch opens up.
