Pebble dash or smooth rendering in a terrace house

    We are renovating our house and putting external insulation. It is a terraced house and all others are pebble dashed.

    We are considering the smooth rendering to give a touch of modernity.


    But we are not sure about what is the usual neighbour etiquette about that (we are not Irish).

    Would a different finish be normally considered upsetting?

    From informal chats seems to be ok, but.. you know how it is :D

    The unity of the terrace will be affected. I'd strongly advise you to apply a dashed finish.

    I'd go for the smooth rendering. A house that done up nicely will increae the value of other houses. Though if the locals dont want to sell it means nothing to them.


    Out of interest how much were you quoted?

    Match the existing house and other houses, otherwise you may need planning permission for the change.

    You should try and keep the same as all other houses.
    One rendered house amongst pebble dash will. Stand out and make the whole. Street look ****e

    As an aside...is your EWI installer familiar with the issues around installing EWI on existing pebbledash?
