The 1.9TDI gets a lot of of love on this thread. How about it in A4 cabriolet form? Tested to Jan, €1700.

I’m an ignoramus when it comes to Alfa’s. That thing is gorgeous. What’s the performance like on that 1.6 twin spark? ie would it make a good weekend car?

I owned one years ago while in my Alfa phase. While it was one of the smallest cars I owned, I loved it. The 1.6 isn't particularly powerful with only 120bhp, but just a nice car to drive. Mine had aircon and cruise control and from memory, I used to get somewhere around 35mpg. Always reckoned I'd buy another one again, even just as a weekend car like you say.

Looks tidy. Most of them end up battered as they are driven by learner drivers. Same owner since 2004 too!

I had that engine in my 156. The thing adored revs. Would do 75mph in 2nd gear.

One of the best cars I had and surprisingly reliable when maintained properly. I had over 180k miles when I got rid

I would wager that 10 of the 13 owners were in the last 3 years.

I'd say so too, especially with a convertible. Forget to declare it off road and play musical chairs with the re-reg lark

It has had a new owner EVERY sixteen months. Did all of those 13 owners not like it? Did they maintain it in their short ownership?

I would consider this a red flag, but each to their own. Eyes wide open.

Suzuki Vitara - any thoughts on these as a 2nd car runaround/dog carrier? Looks like a clean example.

Buy that. You can't go wrong. Looks in great nick. I've an '05 (older shape) and hasn't given an ounce of bother. When servicing the mechanic has a smile on her face as their so handy to work on.

I'd splash out on a timing belt if it hadn't already been done.

45 litre tank in the Mk2, and I think I paid just under 60 to fill it last week. Just gone to around half a tank tonight and I’ve done 480 km.

So 45 litres is around about 10 imperial gallons. If you average 47 miles per 1 gallon, you should be able to do about 470 miles if you drive to the point that it's running on fumes or you actually run out of petrol. That equates to just over 750km so how do you manage a claimed 900km with an average of 47mpg (6 litres per 100km in modern day, non British Imperial Measurement speak).

Frankenstein car....Or Franken-car, if you will.

Engine swap like that, almost certainly problematic. Nothing but trouble....IMHO. Even like for like engine swaps can be problematic.

Also where would you stand insurance wise etc. ?

I said close to 900 km, I suppose a brimmed tank will realistically do about 850 to empty. The figures I quoted in the last post were just what it averaged on that day according to the trip computer. 50+ mpg is very achievable.

I have a funny feeling I saved that yesterday to post here, forgot about it, and it was sold today, so I deleted the ad, but it was in Wexford with a trade dealer who had taken it as trade-in and it was listed at 850

[EDIT]NOPE. Just checked my browser history. Was a 08 and same colour, but it was a 1.2[/EDIT]

I wouldn't necessarily say it was "dodgy", the 1.8 has 2 belts to change, a wet and dry one which is an expensive job but I'd class the 1.8 a more reliable engine than the PSA one in the 1.6 diesel Focus/Mondeo. :D

I had a 1.8 mondeo and my sister in law still has a 1.8 Focus.

Both were/are incredibly reliable. Once the 2 belts are done, they'll go for ever

Gave the seller a shout asking about belts and he doesn't know when they were done. Think I'll avoid to be honest

Means they're needed, you could hand over the cash drive up the road and boom.
