Is Doherty worth 1m over Ben Davies??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

What i mean is that his overall low numbers last season could possibly be explained by a settling in period at the start. The tail end of the season could be a sign of where he'll be at now.

Similar thinking has me staying away from Leicester bar Justin despite their juicy fixtures- think they're overpriced based on how good they were pre-lockdown

Can you really say he is finding form with a six week break to the last game?

No but I think the point is that he has adjusted to the league now. He was decent before the corona break too, I saw him win a fa cup match by himself. He should be 1 of the best 5.5 midfielders.

probably a silly question, I've picked a team, but the home page says "pick team" and not "my team". is it always the same before week one?

Yeah that'll change after the first deadline. And then you'll have the "points" tab for the current week. With "My Team" for the upcoming GW.

One of my biggest conundrums. Unless you badly need the 1 million elsewhere, it might be better to assume he is, and trade down if Doherty doesn’t become a huge attacking option.

    This was my question earlier.
    Alli/Doherty or Son/Bavies?
Personally I'm such a fan of Son and think his ceiling is higher than Allis. So I'd prefer the latter. But I'd be in the minority on that choice I imagine.

Based on nothing but opinion, but I can't see Doherty attacking as freely as he did with Wolves. Spurs have a different style of play to Wolves.

Plus he's in a back 4 compared to a back 5 and he doesn't look as good in a back four when playing for ireland

What are peoples thoughts on the TAA/Robbo double up, have been on it since the first draft but its the only place I can get money to upgrade elsewhere.

Is Gomez an option for Liverpool defence? Regular starter?

On average both pull approx 200points a season each, if you are happy to set and forget,it could be a shrewd investment.

There was talk on one of the threads about a treble Liverpool defence - average 600points through the season, for 20ish million that's a fair trade. It's a tough concept to accept when they concede a goal - all CS points wiped, which can be heartbreaking.

I have robbo, mane and salah ... Someone mentioned Salah has scored on opening day for past 3 seasons - so that has to be figured in when picking your team.

I'm 100% doing it. And considering adding VVD to compete the set

This is a very awkward start with only the 8 matches and the quick turnaround and COVID-19. You either plan for an early Wildcard or you have to bench at least one Utd or City player and try and have cover everywhere including goalkeeper. I’m still undecided which.

United are getting overrated due to no game. Poor form and no rest.

But yeah it's a messy messy start

Robertson looked back to his best against Arsenal. Also he is taking some set pieces now even when TAA is on the pitch (he got an assist from a corner at the end of the season).

Yeah going to do it now and finally on a team I'm happy with.

My only worry is I'll be very tempted by 5 at the back which never seems to provide the points.

    TAA, Robbo, Davies, James, Taylor

Liverpool 4 opening days under Klopp:

Liverpool 4 Norwich 1 (Goals: VVD, Origi, Salah, OG) (Assists: Origi, Firmino, Salah, TAA)
Liverpool 4 West Ham (Goals: Salah x 2, Mane, Sturridge) (Assists: Robbo, Milner, Firmino)
Watford 3 Liverpool 3 (Goals: Salah, Mane, Firmino ) (Assists: Salah, Firmino, Can)
Arsenal 3 Liverpool 4 (Goals: Coutinho X 2, Mane, Lallana) (Assists: Lallana, Gini, Clyne)

Main takeaway is the front 3 like the opening day in previous seasons.

I’m on the TAA & Robbo since day one. Recently considering the treble up but I think you need to be fully convinced and committed and stick to it to realize the value in the long run

Very good point & when you look at it like that, captain armband will equal 800 points for £21million + captain.

Can you get 1,500 points elsewhere from £79 million?

I'm almost certainly doing Robbo & TAA. My only concern is it's a little inflexible.

If some of the big hitters in midfield and up front are on form and you want to go for an extra premium there it's a bit hard to get that 2 or 3m out of the defence.

Do they have poor form though? in the 9 games post lock down they won 6 and drew 3.

Now compared that with Liverpool - won 5, drew 2 and lost 2 - and more importantly conceded 12 goals - only 3 clean sheets - but that hasn't stopped people jumping of double/triple pool defense. Will the pool players still have the hunger - only time will tell.

you basically accept you might have 3/4 games with 5/6 points from 20m+ players, and have to accept it - because the tide could turn - but that's quite hard to do if say there is a 10 match run and only 3 CS and not attacking return - it's almost more of an experiment - set and forget team.

I don't think the Maguire and Greenwood incidents would have helped much. Initial run of fixtures isn't great either. I wouldn't be advising going with more than 1 United initially.

It’s a real shame (and surprise to me) that Reece James isn’t nailed.

If Lampard didn’t put Azpilicueta central last season then he’ll never do it.

Kante in front of - James, Azpilicueta, Silva, Chilwell looks pretty good to me.

I’m guessing Azpilicueta will fill in at LB til Chilwell is available but then who knows what happens to the RB slot. Maybe James will get a chance to cement it while Chilwell is out but Azpilicueta could easily be moved across to RB at that stage.

Anyone with a better understanding of the Chelsea FB slots ?

Come on. Where are the Chelsea fans ?

    I share your Liverpool concerns.

But why exclude Europe for United? In their last 5 games they have scored 2 non penalty goals, and one of those was a keeping error. That combined with the lack of rest/pre season has me a bit worried (aa they looked knackered)

I think there are a lot of hearts ruling heads when it comes to ManU. I am happy to go without them in GW2, if the team generally and any player specifically shows they are worth having, I will bring in then. Things like leaving one of their players on the bench or a wedge itb are crazy too me, shortchanging yourself on GW1 and praying to make it back next week. There are still deficiencies in the team, a manager who is not totally convincing and recent incidents causing disruption. Maybe they hammer CP, then I can make an informed decision on who from them is worth having, before that there are too many unanswered questions for me.

I see it differently. I want Martial, feel like he has the potential to be a season keeper. So I either play one of my benched players in GW1, or plan a transfer before a ball is even kicked. And in planning that transfer, ensure that I can do it in one move so I'm not committing to two transfers, which means keeping money ITB or getting a player of the same value as a placeholder.

Given there are so many question marks about various players' playing time, so many new faces we haven't seen kick a ball in the PL, transfers are going to be all the more precious in the early weeks. I don't want to commit to any before a ball has been kicked.
