Cashing a cheque.

    Quick question whether I'll be able to cash a cheque from a relative or will I need to Lodge it to my account which I would prefer not. I would prefer cash to Lodge/spend as required.

    As far as I know he is Ulster bank and I am bank of Ireland. I also have a post office account.

    Info much appreciated.

    Unless you have a reason for not wanting the transaction on your bank statement, you lodge it in bank of Ireland, then withdraw the same amount (you may need to wait a few days for the cheque to clear if you don't already have the funds in your bank acct)

    And that's your cash to Lodge/spend as required.

    You have to lodge it to your account and wait for it to clear. Banks will not cash cheques with a good few years. It may take up to 5 days when they are different banks.
