5 series depreciate more and are readily available in the UK so are better value at anything from 6 months old up! Depending on your driving patterns I'd recommend a 530e or 520d if you do a lot of miles.

Well I'm on the motorway almost everyday between kildare and dublin area, dont want to spend to much probably a few grand onto of my car

Depends on how much you want to spend. 5 series isn't more practical than a 3 series, you can't let down the back seats in most 5 series it was an optional extra which can be a pain if you don't have a second car. Personally I'd go for something with a bit more poke than a 318, 320d. 330e, 330d perhaps.

Not to much I'm looking to trade In my Volkswagen scirocco and go up a few years. Want around 2013 - 2015 year and going by the prices I can get that on a 318 - 320d up the north

330d for a 2013 are going for around 19k which is out of my price range

Make sure the engine is Euro 6 to avoid a hefty Nox tax bill if buying from the North. BMW engines became Euro 6 quite early but not sure if it was as early as 2013

I've no intention of changing up for at least another 12-18 months but I find myself looking at these a lot lately. I'd love to go back to a hatchback as all my cars have being saloons bar a couple. And wouldn't mind returning to manual either.

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202008142498746?atmobcid=soc3

I'd almost even consider the 120i/125i as I don't necessarily do enough mileage to warrant a diesel.

What would the NOX charge be on the diesels ?

I'm surprised how expensive that car is? Looks like it has very little spec and is a 2l diesel 4 pot 1 series, but maybe I'm missing something?

A 130i or 135i though would be a completely different car if your millage means it's an option.

Don't really see what's wrong with it being a 2.0l ? The bi-turbos put out around 220 bhp stock. Impressive imo.

Regarding that specific one, it's just a random one I pulled off autotrader. They seem to vary in price.

Thinking back I've put about 13k km on the 320d since the new year, and that would probably be more if the lockdown wasn't in place. Since I've switched to diesel I've become more inclined to go places........

Did you bother to follow up on the golf GTI In cork Bazz?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,612 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I have been talking to the dealer over the weekend via email, sent him photos of my car as I won't be able to get down there at the moment. He is to come back to me with a few cost to change figures but I'm not expecting it to be any better. Selling privately is the way to go and if I manage to find a buyer I'd probably look to the UK market. I'm gone a bit cold on the GTi at least until I drive one anyway. While it's probably the best in it's class at what it does, it's a still basically a Golf which is a fair shock to the system coming from the finish and comfort of a midsize exec saloon. My fear is that I have become so used to that level that the hot hatch fun factor of the GTi would wear off after a short time and I'd be yearning for my luxury and comfort again. There is also unwanted attention that comes with the GTi which I don't fancy. I'm not going to rush into this, if the GTi is gone, it's gone.

Sell it privately. Easy enough sale unless it's in bad condition. If you want to stay with a golf I'd say 4 to 5k will only bring you up a year or 2 years max if trading in. New model around 2010 or 2011 wasn't there?
If you are happy with golf you could go for the 5 door. If you move away from golf to one of its rivals like a hyundai i30 or opel astra etc you could come up a good few years if selling your golf privately. An 11 year old golf isn't going to be worth much to a dealer.

Thanks will put it up anyway see what I can get Going by the prices online should get around 7,500 .

I want to get something else the golf has been a great car hasn't caused any trouble but time for a change,

My first car was an 01 astra 1.4 petrol wouldn't be interested in an Opel.

Looking at sticking to a diesel 2liter or above
    BMW
    Audi

I use the motorway most days and city centre.

Only thing is if I sell privately I wont have a car to get to work in . Unless get a cheap car now just to have .
    Any suggestions?

7500 for an 09 golf? Are you sure about that?
    I would have guessed 3000 to 4000....

Lovely car, this is the LCI engine but not the new shape 550i.

I would love to own an M5, especially one from 2018 onwards, I'd say they will soon be in the 70-80k price bracket, give it another year maybe.

Would not be a fan of that interior though with the wood and brown leather. The cerum grey also takes away from the car too.

Anything with an NCT that's running. No offence but the car you are selling is a cheap car.

id readjust your expectations, a 09 golf wont get anything close to 7.5k on a private sale.

2009 GTI or GTD is 7500 to 9k.

Any normal golf of that time is 3 to 5k.

Bazz, from what i remember you're not too far away from me. If you fancy a whip off a manual Golf R without a salesman blabbing in your ear you're more than welcome to a spin in mine. Just put new Michelin PS4S on it this week and new brakes. It will help you make your mind up either way.

PM me if that floats your boat.

PS i went from a MK5 GTi to a B8 Audi A4 a few years ago and i didn't keep it 12 months, sold it to buy a Fiesta ST, if you like these type of cars you will find it hard to move away from them, similarly if comfort and space are your thing then maybe a hot hatch is not the car for you.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 24 Harper91

What can would you get for around 10k in total including what ever I can get for my car .

Would like a 5 door car again.
    BMW
    Audi

But open to suggestions, something fun and fast

What would you go for audi or skoda Octavia
Prices for Audi are turning me off ,
Where a Octavia can get up to a 2015- 2016 for a good price

I know the engine is the same so why is the audi more expensive

Seen a few lovely tdi skodas ,
Where everytime I turn around same an same old audi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,176 ✭✭✭eggy81

Gtd or focus st3 diesel. What would most go for. 15 to 20k miles per year.

Yeah I know, that option has occurred to me but it does feel a bit last resort. I'll probably price it around for trade ins and judge it off that.

Balloon is about 20k or thereabouts. You'd hope its worth mid 20's surely, so it would feel like I've walked away from at least 5k!

I'm actually looking at 420d msports at the minute , seriously considering one. I've mainly been looking at 2017/2018 and from what I see yours would definitely be sold from a dealer for 30kish. Would definitely be tough to walk away from it over the 20k balloon

Engine not really the same though.
Take for example a 2 litre audi a6 and a 2 litre superb. Audi has 204bhp and will nearly always be an auto whereas the skoda will be 150bhp and usually manual. You can get a 190bhp superb but it will close the gap pretty quickly in price when you start getting more like for like.

    2014 audi a6 2liter tdi 187bhp going for 14k on done deal.

Is there any point in having a bigger engine then a 2liter in dublin , you dont always get a chance to speed with rush hour traffic on the roads.

I have a 2liter 157bhp and I very rarely get anyone over taking me

You always see big 3 liters that crawl along , why not just get a small engine if you cant handle it

Average market price value going by done deal is
    €8,305 happy with that.

Asking price and selling price two very different things. 8k for an 11 yr old vw I'd very much doubt if it would achieve it

Ah thanks hooch, that's very kind of you. I think you have hit the nail on the head there with the last part. The dealer didn't come back to me with cost to change as promised and I didn't bother following up so that probably tells you where I am.
