That's the most important signing we made in a while. There has been absolutely zero cover for Robertson who has played through every knock for the good of the team. We have been crying out for this signing

Watching United play in the Europa League this evening and again conflicted, I want them to play as long as they can to mean no rest before the new season, at the same time I find it so hard to want them to win.

As for the signing today, good to have cover that is not right footed for Robertson. Unfortunately it seems we are lacking cover from the academy sides so a signing that had to be made.

Don’t care if they win it or not. Copenhagen have been the better team with lesser players. The longer they keep Ole bluffing his way the better.

I think there is a plan on the works that teams in europe will have the extra time off depending on how far they go. But while I think they will get top 4 I do not see them going for titls

That's one of the positions in the squad covered that needed sorting. Only watched a few highlights but he looks quick and willing to bomb forward.

Now get an attacking player and cover for CB and I'll be delighted

Don't think he will be fired so win or lose they have him there next season, I just want two of our rivals to be as tired as possible. The more games they play the better for us.

How much time off can they get though? It means more games in fewer days to play and having to inconvenience other teams as well to accommodate.

The other downside for City and United is having less time to integrate new players into their team. For United I don't think it will be too much of a problem as there isn't that much of a structure to their team or the way they play, but for City I think it is vital for players to learn the system. This is true of us as well so another reason to not want 3 key players coming in when there is no time to practice with the 1st team.

Thiago Alcantara and a centre half and we are set.

    Chimi lad

Sounds like a Scouse delicacy. Love it.

I think we need a winger more than Thiago myself. Centre half is needed after Lovren leaving and Matip/Gomez injury issues alright.

Our fullbacks play as wingers, so I'd be more inclined to bring someone versatile in that could cover any of the front three, Origi has done this on occasion but I'd be worried if we had to rely on him for a portion of a season if we had an injury up front. I feel a CB is definitely required for the same reasons you mention, so that just leaves Midfield and I think we're ok in this department unless the situation with Gini isn't resolved.

I watched thiago against Chelsea the other night and he is glorious but Fabinho plays his position and doesn't need to be upgraded on. Forward and centre back are the priority now that Robbo is covered.

As per no one predicted our first summer signing so I'm guessing no one has any clue who our second will be

Good to have a proper left sided fullback and now if he can push Robbo all they way that can only be a good thing.

Didn't see the match but just had a look at Livescore and saw they needed two penalties this time to scrape a win. If it makes Ole look like he knows what he's doing and keeps him in the job a bit longer then I'm all for it.

Olympiakos supporters really seem to rate him and are most disappointed to have lost him which is always a good sign. They all seem to remark on his fitness as a nonstop up and down runner so perfect for the job he'll have to do in the League Cup.

So like most I would expect I know nothing about the lad except what I saw of him against Wolves the other night and now that Welcome to Liverpool YouTube video, Joyce wrote a nice piece for the Times which I read before it got paywalled.

Anyway he was saying the lad is a converted left winger so that is another interesting tidbit and he has been watched regularly by club scouts for Edwards since 18/19 after they originally say him when he was on at Willem II in 17/18.

Good to know. Wonder if they see him as a potential wing-forward backup as well as left back cover.

Just seen we've been awarded the most penalties since the PL started (135), Arsenal second (126) and Utd in third (121). I guess when that didn't work we had to invent VAR.

yeah it's likely we've been knocked off our penalty league perch following their showing the past couple of years.

Obviously this lad is a total spoofer - dedicated left-footed fullback allegedly and he's signing his contract with his right hand??

    Edwards out.

    Competition for places is massive.
When Keita & Fabinho were brought in. Wijnaldum was outstanding in 18/19 & Henderson has improved as well.
Gomez & Matip are competing for the CB spot & both have had outstanding runs in the team.

It is why a forward to compete for a place in the front 3 would be ideal.
Salah & Firmino both still very good but performance levels have dropped a bit.

    Edwards out.

I copped that too, Salah is left footed, playing right. Mané right footed playing left.
Now we've got a right handed left back.
