Rather loan Salah to Madrid, with a price to buy after 10 months, let him see he'll be no star there. Will be back in 10 months.

...Leaving the club standing still in limbo waiting to see if he’s a success or failure. Can’t afford to replace him, can’t afford not to replace him.

Also ignores one of the chief reasons players leave - money. Coutinho more than doubled his wages when he left.

Good thinking outside the box Toby, but alas I don’t think this one is a keeper!

Did Coutinho not take a cut in wages to force his move through?

    Nah.

It reads like that article took a line from an interview that they didn't conduct - "he made a big economic effort, like Mascherano and Luis Suarez in their day." - and decided he took a pay cut. We've no idea what that means. Maybe that he didn't take a signing on bonus. Who knows. (Masch and Suarez definitely didn't take pay cuts either incidentally).

Every report of his wages is at least 200k sterling a week, some reporting as much as 250k euros (both could have been true at different times depending on the exchange rate).

Meanwhile....Wilson and Grujic will be sold or kept in the squad. No more loans sez Echo. Offers of 20m+ asked but that's obviously open to argument this summer! Soton, Leeds and Newcastle made inquiries for Wilson.
However, the ECHO understands Liverpool have no interest in another loan move for either player.

The club will only consider permanent offers, with the Reds demanding bids in excess of £20m - otherwise they will stay at Anfield.

Both players are commanding mass interest, with the ECHO also understanding that Premier League trio Newcastle United, Southampton and Leeds United are three of the sides to have made contact to enquire about Wilson’s availability.

Meanwhile, Lazio, Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach have all been reported to be interested in Grujic in the past.

However, Jurgen Klopp is understood to be planning for the new season with them part of his first team squad.

And the German would be happy should they remain at Anfield come the close of the transfer window.

A fair bit of kidology going on. Wilson simply doesn't have a place, great goals or not. If a specialist kicker was allowed off the bench he might stand a chance :) Would have thought Hertha Berlin would have been in with an offer by now given the praise Grujic has got from them.

Seems Couthino's agent took him up the Arse yesterday, they both seem completely satisfied.

Quite the drop from best in the world to playing for them if it’s true. The mental gymnastics around him should from their fans should be funny though.

Phil has gotten a lot older looking than the fresh faced chap who left only a few short years ago. The turmoil has taken its toll on him.

Looking forward to seeing their fans rip him apart on AFTV - "he can't kick a bawl blud!"

Brighton have turned down a £22m bid for White from Leeds so if Liverpool are interested in him there is a good marker on the starting price.

I wonder how much he would cost if he had ever played a game or even a minute in the Premier League

Maybe they should try for a 10 month loan first?

We got the best out of Coutinho and then got a whole lot of money and bought the missing pieces of the jigsaw to complete us.
He is no where near the player he was. He could still do well ar Arsenal.

Should we ask Barca for Messi on loan for a season just to see if he can do it on a cold Tuesday night in England.

If ever there was a player that epitomised the phrase ' the grass isn't always greener on the other side' it's Coutinho.

    Fall from grace for Coutinho.

He's won three league titles since he left, he should be thrilled at the medal draw when he opens it! :D

Offer made for Olympiakos left back Tsimikas, rejected as too low. 20m is the target for the Greek side.

Coutinho could win CL this year with Bayern, they're looking very strong right now.

I'm still fond of Coutinho so yeah I'd like to see him win the CL.

Just thought I'd clarify why I thanked your post so It wouldn't be seen as thanking a carded post;)

    Have the puppets mentioned this?

Surely it would make sense to get them all to mention this then see if Norwich change their stance.

On Coutinho I can actually see him doing relatively well there and getting them back competing with Spurs for a Europa league place. He’ll be their best player and likely the focal of the team which should benefit him.

I'm still fond of Coutinho for what he did for us. Him getting thick over wanting a move was no less than what we got with Torres, Suarez and Sterling.

And unlike those 3 he never threw his arms up in the air while on the pitch, showing their unhappiness for all the world to see.

It's really crap to see a dream fall apart so quickly for a young bloke with the world at his feet. Barca are literally giving him away to anyone who shows interest. It's terrible, but as Turty pointed out I reckon Arsenal will be getting a deeply motivated player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

He might not have thrown his hands up on the pitch however he did fake injuries so he wouldn't be on the pitch to throw his hands up.

Also plenty said he would easily be the best player in Germany when he got his loan move there and well that hasn't worked out either.

It was unforgivable waht Coutinho did back in 2017.
Faked an injury before we played our CL qualifier against Hoffenheim which was a very bad draw at the time.
We did go on to win more easily that expected but Klopp was said to be furious & wanted him sold that summer.

Lost alot of respect for him because before that incident he didnt seem the type of player to do that.

that's the point even Suarez wasn't such a brat and that's saying something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,610 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Coutinho had half a season of refusing to celebrate any goal he scored! And in that half a season, he scored a lot. It made it clear to see the mood he was in, although to he fair, he did put the work in on the pitch which you have to give him credit for.

It was really a d1ckhead move what he did by waiting until the day before the first game of the season before handing in a transfer request. Especially with the transfer window closing that day for English clubs but staying open for Spanish clubs. At least Suarez & Sterling gave the club a full summer to prepare to find a replacement by making their plans known early.

coutinho really made a big mistake leaving Liverpool. He made his bed and now he has to lay in it, even if it's a different bed every year cos nobody actually wants him permanently.

Sterling, Torres and Suarez all left in a bad way but every one of them gave absolutely everything when on the pitch. coutinho was too big for the club and faked an injury to force his move. That's why I dislike the first three for leaving, and why I despise coutinho.

I'd love to see wee Andy go in hard on him in front of a full Kop for his Anfield return. Sadly, that probably won't happen.

I don't blame Torres, Sterling or Suarez for leaving.

Torres had seen Alonso and Masch disappear only to be replaced by absolute muck. He was also on the wane and we replaced him with Suarez.

We were going nowhere under Rodgers so I didn't begrudge Sterling making the move.

Suarez was the best striker in the world and moving to play with Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Dani Alves, Masch, Pique.

Time will tell, but from what little I have seen of him in the past few years the spark is missing. He wouldn't be the first player to go off the boil after a failed big move, the question is does he have the character to move on from the experience and get back to being the player he was showing signs of becoming.
