Van Dijk's biggest problem is that he looks like he's playing at half pace all the time.

He is, in a very literal sense, the best player in the league. Longevity is it's own metric, but he's the best defender I've ever seen. He's so much better than the chaff he faces every week that it just looks easy.

But unlike Messi or the likes, you can't look at the stats at the end of the season and say "Well **** it. He's after scoring 60 goals. Of course he's POTY."

Yeah if you're not watching full games you're not going to notice everything he does, even if you do you'll likely miss a lot of it. Can't remember where I read or heard it but even compared to the CB's he plays with he covers a lot less ground and makes less sprints as he just gets himself into the right positions over and over again. He makes two or three vital shifts to his position can go unnoticed easily but Salah/Mane or any other attacking player makes a great assist or goal and there's highlight clips everywhere. There's not going to be any highlights of VVD moving a few yards a few seconds before the ball comes near him and he makes what looks like an easy interception blowing up twitter.

I rank him and then Alisson as our most vital players. Those two are playing and we're likely to keep a clean sheet and we have enough quality going forward from full back or up front to create chances even if one or two of them are missing.

That's like saying Liverpool did nothing this season apart from win the league.

I suppose domestically anyway, that is factually true!

Altho our U16s did beat the Everton first team......

Y'know, I'd actually love to see him play up front for a game or two for the craic!

Sky Sports News claiming Norwich are accusing us of shenanigans. Been awhile.

Tbf using so many of the clubs clearly briefed journo's in Reddy, Bascombe, Joyce, Pearce and King to announce bids going in was a bit heavy handed.

This is something I always wondered about how it would play out. In meaningless games, start say Alisson and Virgil up front and see what unfolds!

    Newcastle & Leeds want Wilson.

I’d say it’d be like starting with better versions of Andy Carroll and Giroud up front.

there's something oddly satisfying watching Real Madrid make calamitous errors in defence

Hypothetically, I have sometimes wondered who I hate more.... Madrid or city. That's why its always good for these teams to play each other. The answer is City, btw.

Much like when PSG played Utd a few years ago. Turns out I hated PSG more... who knew?

Oil money can take a walk.....

I find I'll root for one side and when they win I'm extremely disappointed. Both in the result and myself.

I wanted Real to win but the silver lining was seeing Sergio Ramos' shocked face in the stands. His red card against City in the first leg was the 26th red card of his career and it cost them not having him on the pitch tonight.

Meh I didn't care either way watching that. I wanted Lyon to go through though

I was conflicted watching the City v Madrid match, but the longer City is in the CL the better it is for us. If they win it we can always rile them up by calling out asterisk as they changed the format and it will leave them vulnerable in the league next year.

Same for Utd, they already qualified for the CL next year so I don't really care if they win the EL this year. It would suck, but a least it wouldn't mean they get into the Champions League even if they were really bad this year. But the longer they are in the competition the less time they have to rest or integrate new players into the team.

I hope Wolves win the Europa League, they were probably the 3rd best team in the PL this year and their small squad and early start cost them I think.

Would've been completely ok with Madrid going through tonight even though I can't stand them, but at the end of day Manchester clubs are our closer rivals so I'll be happier if both clubs are not successful in Europe anytime soon.

The thing about the Europa League is that winning it now is so much easier than winning the old UEFA cup, when we won the UEFA cup the standard ot the teams were much higher, as fewer teams were in the old European cup /CL, so now our UEFA cups are kinda being devalued by the current Europa League format

The big problem with the Europa League, imo is games on a Thursday, it's not going to change but if it did it would resolve my biggest issue with the competition. It absolutely makes a difference if you're playing a league game with 24/48 hours or even a week's less rest, having flown back from the far flung reaches of the continent.
Allowing a CL place for the winner was a good step but not enough.

How much experience do people think Brewster has of training with the first team and knowing how we play and whats expected?

Would it be better to keep him rather than have to bring in someone who would have to adjust like Taki and Fab had to adjust?

@darrentill2 went to the dentist and asked for a Roberto Firmino

Read a good interview with Hoever this morning where he said that he needs to get out on loan and play 30 games a season instead of maybe getting only 5 games at Liverpool and he isn't physically strong enough yet to play CB he also doesn't see himself playing at CB till he is around 25 and loves playing fullback right now. He loves being at the club and has settled in really well.

The young man sounds like he has a great head on his shoulders.

Full back? He really does need to go on loan! :D

How come you never see star players going out on loan. Loaning Coutinho in hindsight was a solution, we never wanted him to leave, and now he is in limbo.
I know it allowed us to sign players, but we apparently didn't need that money to buy players.

Utd loaned out Sanchez plus I don't think anyone would have taken Coutinho on loan, he had a bad back at the time

Rather loan Salah to Madrid, with a price to buy after 10 months, let him see he'll be no star there. Will be back in 10 months.
