I met a Kenyan boy a number of years ago called AK. Not too bad really - we have all our PJs and TJs here after all. But he wasn't named called Andrew Kevin (or the Kenyan equivilant). He was named after AK47!

    Marvellous

Nakamba. Marvellous Nakamba! I can see the hate speech legislation including failure to not blurt out laughing at comical names

Why the devil anyone would call their child this name!

    Not very illuminating.

Just saw a "Rorke" on the Ch. 4 news.

I would like to think it was from Rorke's Drift in the Zulu film with Caine and Baker but more likely Rorke from Call of Duty: Ghosts.

What would people think of the name Emmanuel? Good or awful? One of my brothers wanted it for the latest child, got vetoed.

Makes me think of Sylvia Kristel and those, tasteful, “skin flicks” from the 70s.

Nakamba is his surname. Played his part in Villa's great win over Arsenal last night.

IF you want to test a name, print a CV with that name and ask yourself would you interview someone for that job or would you put that CV in the bin based on that name.

Yes it is racist/discriminatory/bigoted and what ever but imagine who gave Unicorn Ni Holohan her name also raised her?

I didn't know that until Emmet's post above. Now, the oddly vehement opposition from the guys at home (mid 30s or older) has become crystal clear.

There was a kid in my school around 1980 who insisted in taking Lucifer as his Confirmation name. Teachers objected, but fair fücks to the kid, he argued that it was a valid Biblical name of an angel, and not in any way Satanic. The Bishop conferred him Lucifer.

Heard a very young girl being called Aria (as in the musical term) recently, aren't there enough proper names around?

One of the guys in my year tried to get “Moondog” as his confo name. Priests were having none of it. He got a bollocking and was made pick a, more, “normal” name.

My brother, who's middle name is Christopher, picked "Columbus" as his Confirmation name, 'cos he thought it would be funny.

I'm all over Twitter getting him cancelled now.

It's from Game of Thrones (although spelled slightly different). That's what has it become popular again

But, should we stop inventing names? No more new names as someone unconnected with the child might be offended?

A guy at work named one of kids after a relation of Thor's from the MCU movies. It makes me cringe so much.
