    My new-ish chromebook did that recently, thankfully a hard reset worked without deleting most of my files (lost a few passwords though).

    The old macbook pro was not as cooperative, no turn-back-on regardless :(

    Hope there's a solution for yours.

    Right. I'm abandoning it for the evening. Pretty sure it's a battery issue and I can borrow a laptop tomorrow and get it done.
    Sorry for the delay folks but I'll get it done tomorrow evening instead :)
