Connecting two satellite cables kills signal

I have a satellite cable running into my rental accomodation but it has been cut, and there is only about a metre left inside the wall.

The TV is about 5m away so I need to join the cable.

I tried connecting the cable using f-connector joiner but when I do, it kills the signal. The new cable I'm using is Webro RGB cable, and the conductor guage is a bit thicker than the cable coming down from the roof(the guage of this cable is very thin)

Would this be the reason for signal loss? I've checked to make sure the braiding etc isn't touching the conductor/f-connector.

    Appreciate any help, thanks!

Can you do a pic? and did you try getting a signal before extending cable? the cable from roof could be from an aerial, can you actually see the dish>

Might the house have had skyQ at some point.

    Hi,

I will try and get a picture when I'm back at the house tomorrow. It's just two f connectors with a joiner.

The signal works fine when using the cable coming in through the wall but it's not long enough to reach the TV.

This would be my first suspicion - did you specifically check for a short with a multimeter?
