Wow, that's the head of the airport, the head of heritage and I think the head of IT left before Christmas, thats some amount of change in a very short period of time.

Can't be good for Shannon now especially if he's moved on to Ryanair.
Be very interesting (and worrying) what kind of Ryanair/Shannon arrangements are made over the next while!

He knows the entire position of the airport when Ryanair look to negotiate now.

I heard he will be no loss. Was a Rose Hynes appointment from the banking industry to run an airport and never took to it. His mum and rose are close friends

That would be a MAJOR conflict of interest and if he was to take knowledge from his old position Shannon Airport could take Ryanair to the cleaners.

Not true, the onus is on the departing employee not to breach corporate confidentiality so Shannon would have no case against Ryanair.

The cuts are hardy unique to Shannon though are they? DAA instigated a 4 day week in April. Most of the airlines are shedding jobs, cutting pay and begging governments for bailouts. Even a well run Shannon wouldn't have gotten out of this without serious collateral damage.

Oh of course Covid is a huge factor, I wouldn't dream of saying otherwise but the management are to blame for the lack of routes and the complete ineptitude in anything related to aviation.

Luckily for them the majority of direct airport employees will be more than happy to take the big redundancy on offer. A lot of staff in their late 50s and 60s will be absolutely delighted with this, staff who have worked in the airport for 20+ years will be gone after this.

The problem facing them is the airport stays open so cost base remains. At least with Bunratty and KJC etc they can close the attraction and eliminate the cost of running them.

Unless it addresses the legacy issues AND has a clear and viable plan for the future then it continue to have difficulty.

There was no discussions between any staff representatives & 1st many people hear of it was when it was in the paper. They were supposed to meet with Tds that day they didn't. & you can't keep cutting & expecting that to solve the problem & come next summer u have no flights then & same prob again.Thats the Prob when u have accountants running the place instead of people with aviation Experience

Loads of people with "aviation experience" are involved in working at Shannon Airport.
Surprising some of them even work in management roles.

In defence of the management and the way that they made this announcement, they made it directly to all employees at the same time, the amount of leaks down through the years has shown that saying anything to a politician or a trade union will get out to the general public. Unfortunately in today's economy "jobs for life" aren't there anymore and companies have to operate at a very low cost base, we all know there's a lot of waste in Shannon, maybe (silver linings and all that) this is the opportunity that the airport has streamline and become competitive. I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to get reduced hours or a package so hopefully it won't be all bad, but for those who don't have alternatives hopefully they'll get something.

Indo are reporting SG are getting in consultancy firm to do up a recovery plan.

What is the point of Shannon Group management company with their insane salaries if they have to outsource this ? This is where I would expect them to earn those wages ffs. The firm are hardly going to recommend 70% personal cuts across senior management which is minimum required

They're basically tying themselves up in knots.
If their management team were able for their jobs why do the need consultancy services ???

How much do these consultants cost ?

What use is spending money on word salad and educated idiot's when there's job's at stake ?

So they're employing consultants and letting others go...

Sustainability plan eyed for Shannon Group amid tough outlook (Independent)

Shannon Group, which operates Shannon Airport and tourist attractions around the country, is hiring consultants to help draft a major sustainability programme.

The programme is expected to be delivered over a three-year period, but comes at a time when the group is facing significant challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The semi-State company, whose chief executive is Mary Considine, has sought experts to draft the sustainability blueprint to provide advice and guidance to the Shannon Group sustainability team "in respect of producing a sustainability plan strategically tailored to the Shannon Group's needs", it said in a request for tender document.

The foundations of the programme will require extensive input from more than 60 stakeholders, the Shannon Group noted.

The company said it's expected that the consultancy service will initially be employed to produce a detailed engagement plan that will include internal and external stakeholders.

Shannon Group said a second stage of the sustainability engagement might extend to a "wide range of services", including regulatory compliance, workshop preparation, identification and assistance with key sustainability drivers and challenges as well as action plans.

Apart from Shannon Airport and its operation of tourist attractions, Shannon Group also has significant property interests and an aviation services division.
