What's a typically 800 euro studio apartment in Dubiln really like?

The upstairs of your fictional property looks about right for a Dublin studio, if you replace the computer desk area with a "bathroom" consisting of a toilet, basin, and shower that somehow manage to all occupy the same space at the same time in utter defiance of the laws of physics as we know them, and whatever the **** those red and blue things are with a decades-old four burner electric hob with a microwave salvaged from a skip sitting on top of it, and a washer/dryer that neither washes nor dries anything with a dorm room mini-fridge sitting on top of it that makes the whole place smell like death for hours every time it's opened. Also, there's no ceiling fan and the window is actually a tiny sliver of an original single pane sash window in one corner of the room that was cut in half by the new single-layer-of-sheetrock "wall" that separates you from your closest neighbour when your mouldy old five-bedroom Georgian townhouse was subdivided into a dozen €1000 "studios" by your greedy landlord.

It will be more expensive than a house share but you will not have to deal with the often highly contentious shared spaces.

Pretty sure a motorhome is going to depreciate far faster than you'll be making the payments on it. Also, there's the question of where you're going to be parking the thing; a ****ty illegal Dublin studio might actually be cheaper than a legitimate campsite with hookups, and you'll probably not have much luck trying to stealth camp in car parks in that monstrosity.

Dalkey and Crumlin look like cabins/sheds to me.

New co-living places sound like a good compromise but unlikely to be bargain prices.

It depends on the person but for me, I'd rather a studio than a single room with access to a kitchen and living room which is shared with 3/4 other people.

As long as a studio is designed as such from the beginning and not just the basic things being thrown randomly into an ex bedroom, it can be a wonderful space.

Looking through "Studio Apartments" on Daft, most seem to be student accommodation or large houses where a bed is put in the kitchen and hey presto this room is now a studio apartment, 800 per month minimum please.

Oh and the washing machine is also the sink. Hahah

Studio STILL 100x times better than sharing with 2-3 completely strangers grown ass men, where 100% sooner or later the arguments will make the flat/house a living hell living enviroment as always happens, even renting a single room with own toilet, sharing a flat/house you never have really privacy, remember u still share the kitchen, cooker, microwave, laundry, common area, living room, flat expenses, etc, all that assuming is a room with own toilet jeje, as it gets even worse when you share toilet or even the room as well, or even 3-4 flatmates. That's what really would make me going insane. Compare to that, my studio is my own heaven where got ZERO worries about all that WFH or not jeje.

This here's a four-year-old necro-thread. An €800 studio in Dublin today looks like a perpetual motion machine, the Tooth Fairy, an honest used car salesman, or anything else that doesn't actually exist. What you've described is a ~€1200 studio if you're extraordinarily lucky, or an ~€1800 one if not. 🤣

I lived in a 2 bed apartment in Cherrywood for about 6 years. When the Cherrywood expansion plans were released they had pictures of the new apartments. Studio apartments that were asking for more in rent than my 2 bed was(at the time) and about the same size as my sitting room. I tried to wrap my head around trying to fit all my stuff that was in my 2-bed apartment into just the sitting room and it did not compute.

For people who arent familiar with the area, Cherrywood is 50 minutes by Luas to the city centre.

In 2004, I was in a house share in Dublin 4. My friend was in a bedsit on Haddington Road, My house share was 800 a month, his bedsit was 300. I used to be at his playing poker, and I was really envious. Not just because of the price, but it was a really nice, cozy place.

Then Dublin City Council banned bedsits, and guess what, 6 months later (surprise, surprise!) we had a housing crisis.

Now you can put a bed into a phonebox and call it a studio, but bedsits are persona non gratis.

Someone please make it make sense!
