buying second hand lens from ebay.

Hi all.
i'm in the market for a 18-200 canon fit lens, I saw one on ebay from a seller in Holland, it seems a good price but i'd like to know if anyone has bought second hand from ebay and is it worth the risk?

Second hand lenses are always a gamble, but there's always loads of them available.

I stopped using eBay years ago because of their fee's, they charge the buyer, they charge the seller.

Plenty of other places to get secondhand gear, have you tried adverts, done deal, local Camera shops, camera shops in Northern Ireland or England (those with online presence generally have good secondhand options).

If the 18-200mm is your choice then go for it, I have never used it.

I'm assuming you have a suitable camera for it ?

Thanks, I've been looking on Adverts and done deal but can't find much, most are being sold as part of a bundle. might have a look at on line camera shops, thanks for your suggestion.

FWIW, I’ve bought 3 or 4 used Canon lenses on eBay.com but only from sellers in Japan, They were always as described and shipping was free. They were very well packaged as well.

Thanks XMG, I can’t seem to find any Japanese sellers.
Are there customs charges and vat to pay on the Japanese buys?

I've bought a couple of lenses from SRS Microsystems in the UK over eBay, because they were slightly less expensive than buying off their own website. Can recommend SRS.
I've also bought lenses used from KEH in the US.
FotoSkoda in Prague is great if you're in Prague. I'm not sure if they ship. Their website is only in Czech.

Thanks Heebie, I bought a new lens (feck poverty) from SRS, I bought a sigma 18-200 OS HSM macro plus delivery from their ebay site for less than the lens price on their shop site, so thanks for your recommendation.
