    Long time passing ...

I haven't been able to get wholemeal, bread or rye flour in an absolute age. Plenty of plain and self raising back in the supermarkets now, but no other kind. Anyone know when we're likely to see them back on the shelves? I don't use enough to order a huge bag online.

I had a good laugh at the thread title, well done.

You can make your own wholemeal.
1 part wheat germ or crushed up porridge oats and 3 parts all-purpose flour. You can also add in crushed flax or sesame seeds for extra roughage. It's a bit more absorbant than regular wholemeal so use less liquid than the recipe requires if you think it looks too gloopy.

I have used home ground oatmeal flour in the past - good idea, thanks. I will experiment a bit more with that now. I have flax and chia, but I just long for some hearty wholemeal bread. No wheatgerm either, unfortunately.

I always used some strong bread flour in things like scones, as well as bread. I keep a sourdough starter that is missing the occasional feed with wholemeal or rye too.

I bought 00 flour in Lidl last weekend. It is a new product. I think it was 0.85€/kg. I haven’t tried yet though so can’t comment on the quality.

Ordered this today, seems like good value, hopefully it will be good for the pizza night.
