Many thanks, gonna get that car i reckon, returning to Ireland and need something as soon as I land.

Anything I should be watching out for?
Your more than welcome. As I mention I'm not a big Renault fan and posted the ad moreso because I know these have their fans on the forum. If it was the Megane I or the Laguna I I would have being able to tell you a thing or two!

The 1.5 diesel engine in that Laguna generally gets praised here but hopefully somebody else may be able to chime in and let you know what to specifically to check for in particular over and above the usual checks.

Nice looking 2.5 TDI A4 cabriolet, NCT til October, €2000

Personally if I was in the market for one of these, I'd be looking for a 1.8t - but this looks like a nice example, worth a look.

Tidy looking 3 door Starlet, tax til August and NCT til October, €950

Looks very tidy. Nice little runaround if you could add it to a classic policy

Had a Silver 98 Starlet as my first car, handed down to me. Sold her privately and bought a Grey Alfa 156. Loved the 156 but always kinda regretted selling the Starlet truth be told. Didn't know I was born really. They are little rockets. The 1.3 was a peach

Shame new learners prob can't insure anything. Tempting to see what you might get this down to...750/800 maybe. Surprised it hasn't shifted really. Would make an interesting project car or something to learn some basic maintenance on.

Nice car but I hate when they leave the mileage blank! or the tax:pac:

They are a great car especially the 1.3 but I couldn't agree they'd be a car to learn basic maintenance on, most components are very inaccessible. Fiat Punto would be my car of choice for the budding mechanic.

2010 9-3 diesel with 18 months test and 10 months tax, same owner for the last 3 years, €1950

430k km, but it looks in very good nick for that. Too high for the money?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,720 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

I know there's a limit for all engines really, but at that money for a 2010, I'd almost risk it
The diesel in those Saabs is actually a decent engine and especially the 150bhp. There's a nice bit of power in it right through the rev bands.
That looks a well minded car considering the mileage that's on it.
I'm baffled by the tax though
Herself has an Alfa 159 with the same engine in it and it's a 2008, but it's €570 on the CO2 rate, where this one is showing €280 tax?
BTW Duke, you're not far off 10,000 posts I see :D

Money is strong alright given the mileage though the 10 months tax offsets some of that. On a side note, isn't it funny how on nearly every single 9-3 no matter what mileage the side mirror plastic door mountings always manage to fade to white nearly. It would do my OCD in.

They are all the same. Mrs had 2 and I have 1 here at the moment and they all go as bad. It's head wrecking. Bit of oil/peanut butter etc rubbed into them works wonders :P

Saab started tweaking the Fiat 1.9 litre engine differently themselves towards the end of the 9-3's life. The bhp and emissions were different to the likes of Opel, Alfa Romeo, etc. They were around 160bhp by 2010 in the 9-3 and also offered a twin turbo version of that engine with 180/190bhp badged TTiD while Alfa Romeo switched to the newer 2.0 variant in the 159.

Aha! Just found this on Parkers.co.uk

"The greenest model is the 1.9TiD with 120bhp which emits 147g/km of CO2 and averages 52mpg. the 1.9TiD 150bhp was tweaked in 2009 and is actually cleaner with emissions of 137g/km of CO2 and economy of 54mpg."

Was going to say, that even the 120bhp on CO2 is €390 p.a.
Looks like post 2009 ones are the right one for low tax so

    2.5 manual S40 T5, NCT til September, same owner since 2006, €1150

This is a bit of a curiosity; 2004 is very early for one of these. I didn't realise they were available in this trim/engine either. Looks like it could be a very nice buy for the money

At 220bhp, 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds combined with the looks of a 1.6 diesel, I'd say you would surprise quite a few people with that car.

I hd that engine in a S80 a few years back. I still miss it. Very smooth and plenty of torque

It’s almost a shame it’s manual. It’s a lovely car. Oh and those 1.6 diesels are by far the slowest thing I’ve ever driven. Absolutely horrific cars.

Id well prefer it in manual.

If I hadn't the Mondeo id be all over it.

Muppets the lot of them. If any of them were actually interested in the car they would ring about it. I never really understood the hate adverts used to get on here, but it’s instances like that where it shines through.

I'd say they're not really interested Duke to be honest, they probably think for a 16 year old car that costs 1300 euro a year to tax it's overpriced.

I absolutely hate selling anything now, Donedeal, adverts - and don’t get me started on market place - they’re all full of absolute cretins.

If I can’t sell it on here or to someone I know, it’ll sit there.

One of the fellas commenting on that ad, I know him, he thinks he’s Mike Brewer and has tried to buy cars from me before. To be fair to him, he’d probably pay 2500 for the car, then advertise it the next day on the classic section of Donedeal for €5k, and sell it 6 months later for 1500.

Nice and all as the car is, it’s only worth about what the seller is currently asking.

No ones going to be paying one and a half grand for that in six months time or any months time.

    You couldn't give Insignias away!
    It's actually funny
I did a search on Donedeal for 2009 minimum year, value from 500 quid to 2k (to weed out the 1 euro spare parts ads etc), must be 1.9 litre diesel or larger and must have NCT and I'd say 60 or 70% of them are Insignias!!

Yeah, second of March, so it doesn't even get the schnakey extra 4 months.
