Adding dishwasher to washing machine drain pipe

Hi all,

I have my washing machine draining into a 40mm waste pipe and wish to add a dishwasher to it, I was hoping for a Y connection that I could put into the 40mm pipe that could accommodate two waste pipes but I can't seem to find one.

Sorry, that's a dual inlet.

Maybe I need to modify the 400mm pipe so?

Drain out kit, that's what I used. It's fairly simple and more importantly, it works.

Thanks cant make the picture bigger unfortunately does the waste pipe go on one end for washing machine and dishwasher on other?

The black piece is for cutting a hole into your current waste pipe. Then you chamfer the edges, clamp the large piece on and connect your dishwasher to the new piece. The washing machine stays connected as it currently is right now.

Not sure if this is best practice but our dishwasher outlet is connected to the drain for the sink. The sink waste looks something like this: https://www.stevensonplumbing.co.uk/images/source/Plumbing/traps/trap_with_2_appliance_spigots.jpg

Our washing machine goes directly into a 40mm standing pipe

That's what my setup was and I used the kit I linked you to earlier. Put the kit on a couple of inches above the black holder and connect the new hose to the connection.

Just have the spigot on the new kit, turned upwards and make sure the new hose is looped up liked the current hose is when it's all put together.

Same here, the problem with putting both into one pipe is if both are on at once the pipe could over flow.
