    Hi All

Just wondering will a car first registered in June 1989 require to hold a valid NCT certificate after June 2029? Obviously the law can change in the next 9 years but as things stand today in July 2029 it will be more than 40 years old.

    Cheers.

As it stands, it will be exempt from the NCT when it is 40 years old, so yes after June 2029. You understood it perfectly fine!

You are right, insurance and tax @ €56 is all you need. Exempt once it hits its 40 birthday. At this stage of the year, most 1982 cars are exempt.
