I heard similar on CNN over the weekend.
Posited that MBS is securing his powerbase before any announcements are made.

With oil taking a hammering ATM too, the safe havens of commodity, gold or cash all being far more volatile than previously it will be an interesting time.

Bitcoin is not a safe haven, it's a risk on asset for now

Why is the Bitfinex exchange coin - UNUS SED LEO bucking the market and increasing in value today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭themossinator

    Same as gold

Gold a lot safer right now - btc just following equities

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,760 ✭✭✭stockshares

Do people recommend selling and buying back in later.

Bitcoin has outperformed equities for 9/10 years, uncorrelated.

If you are smart enough to catch a falling knife, in a falling market?
    Yes.

If you don't have the luck of a leprechaun and the TA skills of Bobby Axelrod ;)

    NO!

It's far, far harder than it appears.

There is also a huge inflationary risk on the horizon in that every Central Bank will be ramping up interventions, interest rate cuts and QE.

Is crypto a hedge against that, in the way that Gold and Bonds are traditionally thought of?

I suppose we are at ground zero to find out!

Thanks for your help. It's hard to know what to do given the current outbreak and the stock market crashing.

I was thinking of that also but what if it completely tanks. Anything could happen due to current pandemic.

    I'm buying.

I just read Buffets old advice to traders
"Be fearful when others are greedy and be greedy when others are fearful"

My opinion, 're equities, is that people are nowhere near a fearful as they will be in a couple of weeks time. Sit it out.

Yeah but within reason. People bought crypto when there was blood on the streets in 2018 and some are down a further 90% on that.

He's also referring to traditional financial assets which, regardless of value, have a regulated and legal future. Crypto is not so certain in that regard at all so the same advice doesn't apply so well

    I'm buying.

You're buying every week no matter what the value is :p :pac:

I thought I bought the dip in some ordinary shares last Monday after the pretty dramatic fall during the week before. Except it wasn't the dip yet :o

Bitcoin basically doing what it did prior to previous halvings

    CME gap filled

Looking forward to a bounce from here tomorrow probably but some volatility in March until the gates open

XRP getting hammered at the moment , they will have their day but not now

I picked up some BTC this morning around the €7k mark
Could have got it a bit less but in grand scheme of things it’s not bad

To get a bit of context

    https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoins-sharp-price-drop-may-have-been-prompted-by-100m-scam-selloff

A bit like ICO's panic selling Eth late 2018, we may have scammers dumping a lot of BTC. Which can be looked at both ways.

However in actual scary news, my bank (part of a major group) has stopped doing business with quite a few fiat crypto on-ramps. The reasoning is that these (fiat crypto exchange) accounts have been identified as a key loss of customer funds via fraud, aka fraudsters are emptying bank accounts via crypto exchanges rather than to other bank accounts.

That's not something you need to worry about for a while. I continue to accumulate ethereum which is far more interesting.

Pomp had PlanB on today's Off The Chain podcast, after the first 3 minutes of ads it's excellent, great to hear the BTC S2F theory from the main man himself.

All of us? First time in a while I've topped up. If nothing else it's very interesting to see what happens definitely a time to learn a lot.
