That’s mad that people are blaming the boyfriend.

Are people still suprised by him?

You present some garbled effort at statistics as though they’re fact, and then link to some Swedish study you found on google which you haven’t read yourself but expect me to go through to find your evidence... and I might be talking out my hole because I refuse to entertain your nonsense of an effort?

I suppose by your standards I am then. I’m sure I’ll survive.

Exactly. She's in an unenviable position today, she took the job happily enough, probably grabbed it with both hands and I don't blame her. But now she's caught between a rock and a hard place and it probably won't be long before the mob turn on her and blame her for accepting the job. The Press make money by selling stories building people up then they make more money selling stories to bring them down and round and round it goes, it's nothing new. It's horrible and I've never seen the attraction in show business, just a hollow shallow world of insincere people who'd sell their own mother's if it got them the job they want.

Oh so she is not a successful presenter then? What did she do to you to think that you can summarise her entire existence like that?
A perfect example of how vile and vicious internet beings can be for no reason whatsoever.

Well that's business she's in "vile and vicious" without any help from me. She's only one of many.

Nobody will ever know exactly what happened between Caroline and her fella in December and given the news yesterday there has obviously been more going on in her life than that particular incident. She has clearly had mental health issues for a while. I recall reading an interview where she talked about being on anti-depressants.

This could have been a contributing factor to the incident with her boyfriend and why he did not want to co-operate with the CPS and why her management has slated the CPS for pursuing the case even when they knew she was 'vulnerable'. I'm not condoning domestic violence in any way; in fact, I have personal experience of it myself. I just feel and did at the time that there was more to it than her clocking her fella with a lamp for no reason.

As far back as October, she seems to have been struggling and not getting the support she needed, which can be seen in an old post from her Instagram that is now doing the rounds on Twitter, which I have attached here. So, for somebody with existing issues, all the bad press and negativity that has been directed at her for the last number of years and in particular in the last two months cannot have helped her. Apparently, there was even an ambulance called to her home the day before she passed.

As somebody who has recently experienced the suicide of a family member who was a similar age to Caroline, I find it so sad that whatever she was going through she felt this was her only way to find peace.

Everybody should learn a lesson from this sad story and that is to Be Kind to everyone and to talk to those close to you if you are feeling down or not your usual self

I get that’s how the figures are presented alright, and when I look at those stats all I can see is first of all that they’re way out of date, and second of all I can see is a Government body looking for more funding. Nothing surprises me about the way those statistics are being presented tbh.

Um, so let me get this right. A government body (which effectively exists and gets funding regardless) publishes figures that have been arrived at from a comprehensive study (detailed in the publication as I recall) . Those figures broadly agree with a wealth of international research. And you’d rather disregard it for what exactly, maybe some paper from a body that is looking to cream off the maximum share of the government pot that goes to external bodies for their own narrow constituency?

    You’re better than that jack

I really am better than that, and I explained to the other poster why the true figures of levels of domestic violence and abuse and that whole area is impossible to quantify or qualify. Even that copy and paste effort that Gynoid posted, I know it’s from a self-reporting survey done in 1999 where half the expected participants didn’t even respond. The figures are still being used today from the SAVI report ffs to lobby for funding.

That’s essentially all statistics and reports are used for - to lobby for more resources. That’s why I generally tend to take them with a pinch of salt when they’re reporting from their perspective on the issues they’re claiming requires more research and more funding and more services.

They haven’t pulled it. They’ve cancelled one episode out of respect to Caroline and her family, and will continue the schedule tomorrow and have a tribute to her. What has this got to do with Love Island exactly? If she was presenting Countdown or Who Wants to be a Millionaire would people want those pulled? It just seems like a cheap shot by people who can’t stand the show to begin with. Her personal life and subsequent suicide have nothing to do with the show.

A lot of people said Countdown should have been cancelled when Richard Whitely passed away.

Out of respect possibly, or because they couldn’t possibly imagine anyone else hosting it. But I doubt they were linking the show to his passing and basing their reasons on that.

Well she was the host until recently and most people would know her from the show. It's not a direct link I'll be honest and it's not the same as what happened with the person actually taking part in the show who took their own life but it's still linked.

There is an enormous amount of hypocrisy out there.

Look at Maria Bailey for example. That woman made a mistake, and the abuse she received was endless. She could easily have taken her own life over it.

Look at the Late Late Show thread on this site every Friday night. Some posters tear guests and their appearances to shreds.

Look at Lottie Ryan and the vitriol she received online in recent weeks with the media accusing her of having prior dance experience prior to Dancing with the Stars, which she has claimed to be an exaggeration.

Look at White Moose Cafe. That page has over 200k likes and the guy is a massive bully, posting CCTV footage of people, calling customers “fat elephants”, “cnuts”, “pr*cks”, naming and shaming individuals. People find this hilarious.

It’s great that people are calling this behaviour out right now, but the sad reality is, it will be short lived. We need regulation. People need to be held accountable.

Oh, but apparently it is not impossible to quantify or qualify. My "copy and paste effort" was in response to a post of your where you attempted to quantify and qualify with reference to precisely nothing except your imagination....

    You said -
"No, it’s just that women don’t exhibit the same level of physical violence as men is all, and they’re generally deemed weaker and more incapable of inflicting physical injury on a man, than the other way around where men are generally far more capable of inflicting greater injury on a woman."

Consistent studies show that violence in intimate relationships is a lot more equally represented among men and women than I for one ever realised. It surprised me in truth. I am not trying to pull a fast one on you. Surely you can accept you may be incorrect.

Well I'm not on Facebook because it's a mess and it's not good for your mental health being honest. It could/does highlight a persons perceived shortcoming when all their friends are putting up their whole life on the bloody thing and they aren't.

I'm on twitter but I've not made my account private but I've muted and blocked people I don't want to see.

I'll be honest I agree with the sentiment of we as humans needing to be nicer to each other, but saying that and actually doing it and two different things.

Nah, I don’t buy that. It’s the same thing Airbnb and Uber say - we’re just a platform. Vampire capitalism.
